Hi all, new to the forum and looking for help.
I have a Linksys broadband TA Router (2 phone ports)... Off of the router I have my Wireless G Linksys router (which works perfectly on it's own).
Welcome to Voip, lower phone bill, no long distance and no working phone. lol
OK, for whatever reason my TA phone indicator will stop flashing etc. throughout the day, once this happens I have lost phone/internet services. The only way I am able to restore the service is through powercycling the router. This solution only works until the next time the light goes out (could be 8 hours, could be 8 minutes).
My ISP using dynamic routing so I shouldn't have to assign an IP address, and like I said earlier, the wireless router works perfectly (alone). I'm sure it's the TA, or some sort of conflict that I'm not intelligent enough to nail down.
Please help! When it comes to networking, I'm ignorant, so if you respond with a suggestion, please keep it at an elementary 1st step, 2nd step level!
Thank you so much! |

I'm actually an at&t advantage customer but they do not have a forum like this for troubleshooting. i'll give them a call and see if it's possible to update my firmware. i do have the wrt54g which works wonderfully. |

Just circling back, got some really good advice, thought I'd share with you all (since making a few changes I have not lost connection):
>> My guess is your cable modem upstream power levels are off but not enough to notice with just one router and the Internet. What brand of Cable Modem do you have? Where are you?
please type the following into your web browser address bar exactly as I list it here and then cut and paste your signals here.(this will work with 90% of the cable modems)
192.168.100.1/signal.html
This will rule out this as a possibility IF your levels are good.
<< Cable Signal Details Power Level: 55.0 dBmV
>> Theres your problem:
Docsis limits for synchronization are Upstream power: [Normal range 30..55 dbmV] If yours is at 55, you are swinging in and out of synch and you can try fixing the Voip site of the equation till those proverbial cows come home. How to fix it: 1. replace cheap splitters with higher quality ones with a 1Ghz high end range 2. eliminate the split to the cable modem 3. animals may have chewed through your outside cable exposing it and causing high impedence levels. If choices 1 or 2 don't fix it, call the cable company to come out to the house. Check your signal levels after each of steps 1 and 2 and look for a difference. Don't look any further, this is your problem cause.
<< OK I ran the cable from the outlet to the modem, bypassing the splitter....it's at 51.5 now, I think I would be better off if they run a dedicated line in for my modem, right now the signal is being shared with about 5 tv's. i'm guessing that only degrades the strength of the signal.
>> Yup but they have a responsibility to make the signal stable. A separate line is probably the best and cheapest alternative. Here in EXPENSIVE NY...lol the cable company will do that for 39.95 one time install. If you try to fool around with it you'll wind up spending more than that on incremental splitters etc. 5 TV's....that's the cause, your signal is split too many times for a strong cable modem signal but to the naked eye, the TV picture would be just fine. |
