I'm planning to take Vonage and want to know about the cancellation process.

I heard lot of bad stories about that. How is it now?

I know that there is a $100+ penalty for closing before the 1 year contract.

I want to know experiences from people who recently cancelled their Vonage account.

Read the Vonage terms of service. It is all spelled out in there.

Terms of Service
Vonage TOS 8.8 - If you take a rebate on a Vonage device, there is a rebate recovery fee if you cancel in the first year.
Vonage TOS 8.7 - If you cancel your service in the first year, there is a $40 disconnect fee.

I know these two charges for cancelling within the 1 year period.

I wanted to know how smooth the canceelation process will be as I heard people are kept on hold for more than 30 mins and some have billing issues even after the cancellation.

It used to happen some time back. has it got better now?

Well you'll have 30 days from the initiation of the account to disconnect with-out fees and you'll even get your money back.

When I canceled my account (I had to because my internet service got so bad, I couldn't use my phone), I had my number ported to a cell phone. When the port was complete, my account was automatically closed and I could see that on my online account. I didn't have to call and cancel account although some have had to call to cancel. It depends on the customer service rep how much trouble you have canceling.

Hi buddy, I'm just curios on this. How did this end up for you? Smooth disconnection? Were you still under contract here?
