Post subject: Unexpected wrinkle in dialling 800 number
This makes 2 things that have come as total surprises since switching my service over to
Vonage
- the first one being the unacceptable loss of anonymous call rejection.
My wife needs to call an 800 number to access voice mail for her job. The 800 number routes the call to the closest company office - which no longer happens since we switched our home phone to
Vonage
.
Arrrrgh - I wish I had thought of every little wrinkle instead of just the cost savings and if 911 would still work... Throw in the weird way Caller ID sometimes works and I'm seriously considering switching back to Verizon...

It's the price we pay for being early adopters of relatively new technology. They say the devil is in the details.
If you don't want to give up all the good things of
Vonage
service, you might consider getting a sub-$20 "Message Rate" POTS line (if your carrier offers it) for the occasional annoyances, if you don't have a cell phone or alternate method of doing those things you mentioned.

Can the wife get the direct number for her VM ( the number the 800 no. forwards to)? Then dial it from the
Vonage
phone. There is no toll charge anyhow.

Or maybe just dial her number at work and enter the extention if need be and wait for her voice mail to come on...then hit star and it should let her login maybe.
