Is there a way to configure Vonage to block calls from a certain number? There is a telemarketer who calls me (and thousands of other people) every damned day. 1-973-999-6091 (Of course, that's not their real number) Actually, I'd like to send an electric charge through the phone and singe the hair on his ---- well, never mind that. So, is there a way to block (black-list) a particular number? Thank you |

It is a popular request, but you cannot do it with the normal Vonage service. Until Vonage provides the feature, you can run external software - Voip Recorder from PenBay networks has this feature. You can block either by number or caller-id name. Blocked callers go right to voicemail without your phone ringing.
VR is available for Windows, Mac, and Linux. A free trial download is available at http://www.penbaynetworks.com/ |

If you have a voice modem, here is a good solution.

You can do more than "zap" callers. I find PhoneTrayFree to be invaluable.
Also, remember you can register your phone number with the DoNotCall Registry. Not an immediate solution and does not shut off maverick telemarketers, aka asshats, but it is overall, effective. |

I don't think I have a modem - only my Vonage box. I have also been unable to send faxes since I got Vonage. Perhaps a modem can solve both problems. But I'll need some assistance. Thank you |

Check Device Manager to see if a modem is installed. But, you need a voice modem and my guess is if you had one, you'd know it. Without a voice modem (usually a voice/fax modem) PhoneTray Free will be of no use to you for this purpose. |

contact your local authorities and notify them of harassing calls. even though this is not threatening in nature it can stull be reported. the local police can then contact Vonage to block thos calls. |

If you want to block numbers, area codes, whatever you want, then you need a device from the Digtone company.
www.digitone.com
These devices are highly customizable, can block numbers, area codes or anything else you want. They have several operating modes and like I said are very customizable.
The setback is that they run about 100 bucks, but that's a small price to pay one time for total control of who rings your phone.
I had an older model years ago and it worked great, but was damaged in a flood. I placed an order for the new model Call Blocker 10 which should be arriving in a few months, as they are currently being built by the manufacturer.
I will post my own topic on this device after I have used it with my Vonage service. |

Many phones have this feature. My Panasonic Mod KX-TG6441 allows you to enter up to 30 blocked numbers. On receiving a blocked number the phone rings once and gives the blocked caller a busy signal. I would rather it didn't ring at all, but it is better than nothing. It also allows you to block unlimited unknown caller ids. If anyone has a better solution we would appreciate a response |

I'm not sure about blocking numbers, which is obviously the best solution. However, you can submit a complaint to Report A Caller. |

I use PhoneTray free very successfully with Vonage. I assume you have a PC, I think it doesn't work with Apple.
Modem: If you look at forum for PhoneTray Free, they suggest Hiro V.92 56K External USB Modem. I bought one for about $20 on ebay.
Disclaimer: PhoneTray Free isn't exactly plug and play. That is, you have to get used to how to set it up to do what you want. There will inevitably be cases of accidentally zapping calls from your relatives, etc. until you understand all the settings and features. Nonetheless, I think it's terrific. |
