Even though the Vonage website says my area code (502) not available, I decided to call to find out. It actually says the area code is "Out of Stock" whatever that means. I have not been able to Reach Vonage today since they have a recording telling me to call back during regular business hours. My question is : Why is my area code not available? If it is not, then how long do I have to wait? Should I go with another company since it is not and since Vonage cannot handle simple phone calls? |

Your number is probably not available, since Vonage has used all their allotted telephone numbers. You will have to check back to see when the area code becomes available. |

When they mean "Out of stock", that is exactly what they mean. Vonage must compete with the local telephone company as well as the morass of cell phone companies for telephone numbers within any certain area code. They must be purchased by Vonage and sold to you as they become available. Here in SE Colorado we simply ran out of area codes. So, they first switched to 10 digit dialing. Next they added another area code. I was unable to obtain the regular area code for this area that I am so used to, but it was "Out Of Stock". I settled for the alternative area code just so I could start up Vonage service. It works just as well as the other. Ask the FCC in your area what they plan on doing about the area code conjestion. |
