I woke up today and tried to use the phone...no dial tone.
i called vonage, walked through the tech menus (using my cell phone).
5 times in a row when selecting options for tech support, i got a fast busy signal and was disconnected.
i tried calling their new account line: ALL CIRCUITS ARE BUSY.
Vonage is toast. Go try it yourself, this is pathetic. |

Doesn't say that on mine... and anyway that's all well and good.. but maybe we could A) put something on the phone system? B) have redundancy? |

We had a four hour outage here in Providence but that was due to Cox cable going belly up for that time.
When I've had problems I've usually had to wait a half hour or more before I can talk to someone who has a clue. And I've found that by using the regular number as opposed to the 800 number I have fewer problems getting through.
But I will tell you all what I have told people on other discussion boards regarding Vonage support. If you want support go right ahead and pay your former company $50 to $80 a month for the same functionality but better support.
Vonage does have to figure this out though. I've emailed support never to get a response. But to date I have only had one problem and that had to do with my predilection for vintage Western Electric phones which REQUIRE 90VAC @20Hz to ring properly. My Linksys RT31P2 came to me pushign only 60VAC @ 20Hz. Got on the phone with a gentleman who used to be a switching technician and we were able to resolve the problem in short amount of time. |

Not only did Vonage get hit by a snowstorm, so did a lot of their customers!
We had an 11 hour blackout in my part of Boston (yes, it got down to -1 degree this morning at my house and was 38 degrees inside), so I imagine a lot of people with outages had no phone service and needed help figuring out that they needed to reboot their equipment or how to reboot their equipment.
When my power went out I just unplugged my Airport Express router and my RT31P2, and then when it was certain that the power would be on for awhile I plugged in the RT31P2... waited for it to be in shape... and then plugged in the Airport Express.
Vonage should try to prepare for snow events, but this blizzard was a whopper. I think part of having VoIP right now is being willing as a customer to figure out how to handle glitches unique to VoIP. I'm getting great service and saving $750 a year... but one has to remember that we're early adopters, too. |
