I was at Radio Shack yesterday asking about the Vonage package that they sell. Unfortunately, the guy didn't know if it was any different than the standard package that Vonage sends you for free when you sign up. So does anyone know if there are any differences? Other than you own the hardware, I suppose. I don't know if that give you any more capability as far as being able to program the converter yourself.
One potential downside, I read in the Vonage fine print that they charge you $45 or something for cancelling unless you send you converter back. If you have your own converter, I wonder if they still charge you?
Incidentally, this is all for Canada. I don't know if the same offers and price are available in the US.
Thanks! |

radio shack has the motorola device (vt1000 or vt1005) search this forum for more info on it. Vonage sends the linksys rt31p2. if you own your own device, you also own any problems it has, whereas it's vonage's problem if they send you a bad device. check vonage.ca for more info on pricing, etc. there was discussion just recently about the disconnect fee when you own your device, but I can't seem to find it right now. |

RadioShack also now sells the Linksys device in some stores.
Indeed Vonage does ask that the device is sent back to them upon cancellation, else they hit you with the cancellation fee. I argued with them about the cancellation fee and tried to get them to understand that I already paid for the device when I bought it from RadioShack. Their answer: "It's not our fault you paid them for something we were willing to give you."
Oh well. |
