OK - just got the stuff and trying to set it up... Figured while I was on hold w/ Vonage (10+ minutes now) I would see if the forum is faster. When the ATA stops blinking, the instructions say PRESS the RED button and then DIAL 80# on the phone.
What IP Address should I be getting - WAN (public - 68.63.x.x) or NETWORK (Private - 192.168.x.x)?
I am currently getting the PRIVATE IP, causing me to suspect that I have ROUTER configuration problem.
Am I heading in the right direction with my question?
TIA - Confused in Connecticut... |

I sympathize with the being on hold issue. It took me days to get voice mail set up-- no, I wasn't on hold for days
When I dial 80#, the IP address of my router port is spoken over the phone. I'm using a Netgear RP614 router, and the IP addresses it assigns are internal to home LAN.
Hope this helps. |

Thanks Bill - info was VERY helpful
FYI - I hung up on Support after 45 minutes.
Another question: Can the temporary virtual number (assigned to me until the home number is ported) recieve calls?
Calls to the home number ring on the POTS line... Calls to the Virtual number go direct to Voicemail - Is this normal SOP?
Outgoing calls are fine - they appear as though they come from my Home Number - GREAT! |

Unfortunately, I have no experience with the virtual number, since I was unable to maintain my previous telephone number
I wouldn't want to misspeak on this issue, and perhaps someone better qualified will respond quicker if you re-post your question as a new topic.
Regards. |

most likely the problem with the calls going to voicemail has to do with port fowarding. you'll need to setup the router to fwd certin ports to the ata so that you can rec calls.
5060 to 5061 UDP (local IP of ATA) enabled 69 to 69 UDP (local IP of ATA) enabled 123 to 123 UDP (local IP of ATA) enabled 10000 to 20000 UDP (local IP of ATA) enabled |

Thanks everyone for all the advice...
Turns out it was a Vonage Back-End Routing Problem...
Tech Support got on the case last nite and within an hour I was up & running! |

The ATA thinks it is a single IP. It knows nothing about the NAT going on at the router.
The router is actully switching the IP address as teh traffic flows thru it.
As a result it will only be able to give you the private IP address(Comonly 192.168.x.x ot 10.0.x.x)
If you want to know what address the router is using onthe "dirty" (public) side. (the side that is exposed to the world) eith look at the router configuration or try one of the may IP resolving stites like:
http://www.whatismyipaddress.com
But the bottom line answeris that you will get the PRIVATE address by pressing 80# |
