I did a search and couldn't find anything so I hope that someone could explain this to me. We are finally ported over to Vonage from Verizon. The clarity of the voice is outstanding. I can for once hear others on the phone. I am very surprised.

Vonage tells me that we can use our corded phones and that they are trying to find a tech in the area that can help us. In the mean time I am trying to figure this out on my own.

In the house there are two lines wired in the building. Now Line A is the main line and the phone number we had ported to Vonage. Line B is cancelled with the phone company. We have verizon DSL on line A. Can I take Line A in the outside box and plug it into Line B . Then Inside take the the router and plug this into line B and take a second line from the Vonage device to the main line that was line A in the house to get Vonage through the house on the corded phones. (Line B is only in two rooms.)

I hope that I did not confuse anyone.

I really appreciate your time
Thomas

What is the 'router' mentioned in the above? If you are referring to your DSL modem, then yes you can. Use line B to deliver the DSL signal to your modem, and use line A (disconnected from the outside line at the outside box) to distribute Vonage dial tone to the rest of the house.

I tried connecting the line A in the interface box to line B and it will not reach. So Vonage suggested that I buy a splitter with two outputs. On one side is for DSL and the other side for the phone and plg that into the wall jack.

Wat happens now is that I get a dial tone on one corded phone but it will not disconnect. On the other corded phones there is no sound.

Any thoughts or suggestions.

If your house is wired for two lines, connect one of the two lines to your outside service and use that line only to deliver DSL to your modem. Leave the other line disconnected from the outside seervice, and use it to distribute the Vonage dial tone to the other jacks on the same line. You can do this by rewiring the house lines at the terminals in the box outside if the plugs and jacks in the box do not reach.

If you ask Vonage for professional installation, they will send a technician to your house to do this for you.

Thank you I wish I had kept the DSL on the secondary line in the first place. I will try tomorrow and see if that works.

I also talked to Vonnage for professional install and they were looking for someone in my area.

Again. Thank you

The House is wired for 2 lines but I only have the two lines in two rooms. I could most likey change the jackets and add the second line to each room.

I did try to change the wires outside at the interface box from line 1 to Line 2 but when changed I didn't have an internet connection. I don't get it. If it is the mail wire into the house how can not work? It seems that verizon has to change it back to the other line internally.

Any more thoughts will be greatly appreciated

When you moved the DSL service from line 1 to line 2, did you also connect your DSL modem to line 2? If not, then that's why you didn't have an Internet connection.

Update:

Again thank you for all your time.

I called verizon, I am having them move the DSL service back to Line 2, that way I can have Line 1 ( which is in every room of the house) available to use for the vonage.. I tried plugging the Vonage device into the second 2 line yesterday and it works fine , in two rooms. So when the dsl service is moved to line 2 I will deconnect Line 1 and use that for the Vonage device.

We live in Williamsburg, Va.
