PostPosted: Fri Dec 18, 2009 2:00 pm    Post subject: FREQUENT received calls to wrong numbers...frustrated Reply with quote Back to top

I've had Vonage for a few years, and never had any major problems. Then we changed our number when we moved to a new state, and for the past 6+ months we've been having this problem.

I am constantly getting calls for the wrong number/wrong people. And it's not like my newish number just used to be somebody else's number and the calls haven't stopped yet...because nearly every time a wrong call happens, they're asking for a different name...and unless a family of 50 people used the same number, I doubt that's the case.

I've also noticed that often the calls comes in spurts...I'll get 2-3 calls for the wrong number within 10 minutes. For instance, about an hour ago I got a call for a Matthew, and a call for a John within 10 minutes of eachother.

This is becoming extremely frustrating. I get at least one wrong call every day. Many days I get several wrong number calls. The fact that a lot of the time the wrong number calls come in bursts where the people calling are asking for completely different people makes me think there are brief periods of time where there is some sort of "loophole" that directs these calls to my number by mistake...some sort of routing problem.

I called Vonage customer "support" and the Indian guy on the other end immediately dismissed the problem saying at the time, there are no routing problems. I thought maybe he has misunderstood my problem so I tried explaining again only to get the same answer. I never have luck when calling customer support, they're not too helpful.

- Location: Newport, RI
- ISP is Cox, cable
- Download: 10829 kbps, Upload: 5289 kbps
- Modem is Motorola SB5101
- Vonage model: VTA-VD
- Modem -> Linksys router -> Vonage device
- The Voip speed test on this site doesn't appear to be working...

Thanks in advance for any input.

Keep asking the wrong-number callers what number they dialed. Some won't answer, some will get angry at your question, but most will tell you. See if there's a pattern. See if the same number or numbers keep turning up. Try calling one of the numbers they said they dialed, and see if your phone rings. With these answers, you'll have a specific problem to report to Vonage -- more likely to find a resolution than a complaint about a vague 'routing problem'.

If they're all dialing your number, then the problem is not a technical one but could be solved if you can withstand the inconvenience of getting a new number.
