I will start by describing my system. Comcast high speed cable modem SBG900 is connected to a Netgear FS116 16 port Ethernet switch. The switch is then connected to all the cat5 jacks in my house and the Vonage VT2142 modem. When connected this way, my home network and internet work great, however, my phone does not. I can make outgoing calls with no problems, but when I recieve incoming calls, the other person cant hear me after about 5 seconds.
So I connected it a new way. Comcast cable modem SBG900 to Vonage Device VT2142 to Netgear FS116 Switch. This solved my phone issues, however mow my home network no longer works. I have internet at every location, but the computers cant connect to each other.
I am pulling my hair out trying to get this to work its either have the phone work correctly or the home network work correctly so everyone can use the network printer. Am I missing something? Any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated! |

Does your Vonage device have a different IP address than the one set for the router? If both are 192.168.15.1 make one 192.168.1.1 or something like that. |

yes, I am trying to change my VT2142 IP but to no luck. I can change it in the wan settings, but not the lan settings. It keeps giving me "subnets are matching" error.
My router is 192.168.0.1 and i am trying to make my vt2142 192.168.0.125. but it errors. what am i doing wrong? |

If it's just a basic set-up make the VT2122 192.168.15.1 |

I notice the cable modem is a gateway device, not really sure how or if your set-up can be configured to work. |

I know there is a way to get this to work, problem is, I have yet to find anyone that knows how. If installed like this:
Motorola SBG900 -> Netgear FS116 16 port switch -> Motorola VT2142
Everything works correctly except after recieving an incoming call, My end goes quiet after 5-7 seconds. The other end can hear me still, I just cant hear them. However, outgoing calls work as they should and my home network works as it should. My SBG900 firewall is disabled so I know that is not the issue. PLEASE, give me some ideas on how to resolve this. |
