Since hooking up to Vonage, my computer internet speed has drastically dropped. It reminds me of dial up days. I should have super fast internet since I have a fiber optic connection.
Details of my set up:
Acer aspire 5100 notebook w/2GB ram (I upgraded). I have Windows Vista.
Cisco Linksys wireless router WRT110 (but I always use the ethernet cable since the wireless is too slow now)
Vonage adapter VDV21-VD
mstar is my ISP. 10MB/s is the connection speed on a dedicated fiberoptic line.
Setup: ethernet cable from modem to pc and another ethernet cable from modem to Vonage adapter
The Vonage speed test wouldn't work for me, so I went to speedtest.net. I got these speeds on 4 tests within 1 minute: upload 7.67MP/s to 14.36 MP/s download 9.58MP/s to 45.64Mp/s
That doesn't necessarily sound that slow, but my computer is sluggish! Videos skip like crazy, gmail takes forever to load, etc.
Thanks for any tips or help! |

With that setup, the Vonage device should not slow down your internet. If you were hooked up modem->vonage device->pc, I could see how it could slow down the connection as it is going through the device. Have you tried disconnecting the Vonage device when the internet is slow? does that make a difference with internet speeds? |

I agree, but I'm also confused. The WRT110 isn't a modem, so where does it fit in this setup? What modem are you using? |

Ah my bad. You're right, the WRT110 is my router, lol.
Correct setup: ethernet cable from WRT110 router to pc and another ethernet cable from WRT110 router to Vonage adapter. My fiberoptic ethernet cable is plugged into the Vonage adaptor, so the internet cable does go through the Vonage adaptor.
I tried moving the fiberoptic cable from the Vonage adaptor and going through the router so the setup is as follows:
Fiberoptic cable into router. Router has two ethernet cables, one to PC and one to Vonage adaptor.
That seems like it may be a little faster now. My BIL who has had Vonage much longer than I have changed my setup to this way. I think he may have done that because I was getting feedback in the phone. |

So do you think that you're now getting the performance that you should have? |
