Hey Guys, There was a post a few months back that was looking for help with Vonage config: cable modem ---> RT31P2 ---> PC. They were looking to make thier network larger and wanted to know if the RT31P2 should be the first device or if they should put the new wireless router in front. The advise give was to connect the intternet modem to the wireless and the Vonage RT31P2 as the second one off the LAN Port. They reffered to a 2 router diagram that showed how to connect it.
I have a simular configuration and have had many difficulties getting it to work. I also would like to put my RT31PT behind a wireless router with 4 wired ports. Evertime I do this however I lose my phone connectivity. The router works fine but the phone LED's do not light? The RT31P2 is a choke point tin my network and creates network drop when my kids are on Xbox Live. Any suggestions or ideas as to why my phones are not accessable when the RT31P2 is installed second in line?
My network configuration can be viewed at: http://eszekeres.com/NetworkConfiguration.pdf |

I assume that you're using dynamic addressing (DHCP). Make sure that the subnet address range being assigned by the RT31P2 is different from the range being assigned by the wireless router. |

I was thinking is was the SPI firewall on your wrt54g2 router that may be causing the phones not to be accessible. I would just try as a test to temporarily drop the SPI firewall on the router with the linksys behind it and see if the phones work. |

The subnet mask I am using is 255.255.255.0 Are you saying I should be using a subnet different then this on the Vonage device, if so what would you recommend? |

I wasn't talking about the subnet mask, but the range of subnet addresses being assigned by the routers. If both routers are enabled as DHCP servers and both are assigning the same addresses, you'll get conflicts. For example, the range used by one router might default to 192.168.15.xxx . If the other does the same, you should change one of them to something else, such as 192.168.16.xxx . |

Got it, no one is 192.168.20.1 - 33 and the other is 192.168.20.50 - 88. Thanks for the advise though. I think I may solved the problem by turning off the firewall. We shall see if that works. |
