Hello,
I am trying to add a second line and would like to purchase an adapter/router/phone on EBay.
The only functionality I am looking for is ease of configuration and call quality. I do not need a router and do not need multiple handsets.
Is there a preferred adapter/device given my above need?
Specifically, I've read bad things about the DLink and Motoroal models - not sure if the negativity is about the router end of it or the call quality / ease of configuration. Some posters have complained that one of the devices would lose all of its settings when reset. I am looking to avoid these issues.
To rephrase my question, if all that I need is ease of configuration, stability and consistently good call quality (VOIP related call quality issues are across the board and not of concern here), which devices should I avoid and/or which would be the top 2 or three choices.
Thanks, MediocreFred. |

Purchasing an adapter on EBay is not recommended. Vonage will not guarantee that the adapter can be activated. If the owner of the adapter left Vonage without paying his bill in full, the adapter cannot be activated. Why would you want to purchase an adapter when one can be purchased through Vonage for little or no cost? |

Good point.
When I try to add a line on Vonage, the only adapter options I get are the VPortal (refurb), the VPortal (new) or the multi-phone system.
On ebay, I see at least a dozen other models of adapters and routers. Some of these look less expensive than the v-portal (non-refurb) option.
Also, I see others on this forum that have not had any issues with purchasing the device from EBay.
That said, is the VPortal a decent device - as far as stability, and call quality go?
Thanks. |

The V-Portal is Vonage's only option. Those other adapters are previous models that are no longer used. I had the motorola 2442. It served me well until my internet connection got bad. Even charter's own phones were having trouble in my area. I had to get rid of Vonage because it never worked because of my crappy internet service. One technician told me what the problem was. The internet nodes are rated for about 300 customers. The one that I was on had over 1200 customers causing constant issues. I could not be without a phone so I added a cell phone and a bluetooth device to take place of the Vonage adapter. I would have stayed with Vonage had charter been able to fix the internet issue in a timely manner. |
