I've been reading over this board for a couple of hours now, and I am definately going to 'Join the Vonage Club.' But I have some questions about equipment.
1. I've read some posts about Linksys "issues" and "problems." What exactly are the problems and with which equipment models?
2. If I order on Vonage's Website, do I get to choose which model of either Phone adapter or Router/phone adapter gets sent to me?
3. Which equipment should I get? I am using a Netgear RP614 router and Linksys modem now on Mediacom Cable internet, so I don't really need a new router. Unless you think my Netgear is slightly aging and a new Router/PhoneAdapter would be a better choice.
Thank you in advance. Everybody seems very helpful (from the other posts that I have read) and I'm glad I joined this forum and I am looking forward to dumping my landline and moving into the 21st century. |

1. the list is too long. main issue seems to be background noise which can be fixed (rigged). read the background noise threads. there are only 2 models. 2. you get the rt31p2. no choice. it has QoS which can be helpful. search for qos if you don't know what it is. I would go this route personally.
I'm surprised you read this forum for 2 hours and still have these questions. reading for a couple more hours would be beneficial. while I hope my post helps, reading through lots of previous posts will help more. |

The RT31P2 and WRT54GP2 both have issues,
air type noise
intermittent ghost reboot of phone port and/or whole router itself
routers get bogged down and surfing becomes slow, etc
QOS is like solid on these units and what a nice thing these would be if they worked 100% of the time. FYI Linksys is revising these units and anything you receive from Vonage will likely have these issues. I just want something that works and trustworthy as my netgear router....PLEASE!!! |

Yeah a read about the noise issue and how to fix it with a wire patch, but I heard mumblings about router problems, but I didn't know exactly what.
When is Linksys/Vonage coming out with a new Router? |

You guys that experience slowness on the RT31P2 try setting upstream QOS on 70. This fixed all the bogs I was getting when using phone and gaming-browsing etc.
Not sure is this is because of my available bandwidth or just the routers sweet spot. |

I was all excited about signing up, but I keep reading so many posts about people having performance problems both Voip and Web.
(Granted you usually only here about the upset ones, happy people don't usually voice their opinions.)
My main concern(s) are. 1. Voice Quality 2. Web-speed quality 3. Ability to have a few ports open/forwarded for my email service (Kerberos/Sidecar junk) |
