Hey guys, I'm studying in Antigua, and I purchased Vonage, so I can keep my U.S phone. But I can't seem to get it to work...
I use an internet called InstantNet. i have to type username/password to log in.. I do have a walljack and I can simply connect ethernet to my laptop and it works as well.
however, whenever I connect with Vonage, both internet and phone doesn't work. is it because i don't have a cable modem?
well my noob questions..
1. can it work without the cable modem? 2. do i need to buy a wireless router?
here is my info
1. Your location - Antigua 2. Your ISP name and type (cable, DSL, wireless etc) -wireless hotspot 3. Upload and download speeds -1mbps 4. Modem make and model -don't have one.. 5. Type of Vonage adapter used -VDV21-VD 6. Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
please help me! thanks in advance! |

If you are saying that your ISP is considered a wireless hotspot and when you open a web browser, you are asked to enter your username and password, this is a web proxy authentication method. This type of authentication will only allow internet once the client(in your case, your PC) authenticates through the web proxy.
Web proxy authentication is not supported by any Vonage telephone adapters or any router you would buy in a store. Web proxy authentication is for a single client only meaning your PC.
The only possible Vonage clients that MIGHT work would be the V-Phone, softphone, or Companion since they operate on the PC itself. However, if your ISP is indeed using a web proxy, they may only allow http, https, ftp type traffic to route through their network.
You should be calling them to ask if they authenticate via a web proxy and if they allow SIP, TFTP, and RTP traffic over their network. |
