Using a 2wire 1701 DSL gateway/router -> Linksys RTP300. My local network is on the 2wire, with only the phone on the RTP300. I have been a Vonage user for several years, with no problems. Recently my DSL service was upgraded from 1Mb to 2Mb. Now, about 80% of the time, when I dial a number on Vonage, my DSL disconnects (orange light flashing on the 2wire). It reconnects itself after about 10 seconds. In all other respects, my Internet behaves perfectly. This only occurs when I try to make a Vonage call. On advice from support, I have disabled QoS on the RTP300, and the next call worked, but shortly thereafter it failed again. Seems to be random. Any ideas? |

It seems that your DSL modem is losing sync to the DSLAM (the DSL head-end equipment in your local phone company's central office). It is usually some type of interference that would cause that. How do you have your equipment connected? Are you using the house wiring for your Vonage service? Is your modem connected to a power strip? If so, can you plug it directly into the wall outlet or a different wall outlet? |

The problem was solved by borrowing a friend's adapter/router and installing it in my network as an exact replacement for my RTP300. It functioned perfectly. So the RTP300 was guilty. Despite all the settings changes suggested by support, it continued to make my DSL line drop. I had the DSL line quality checked, and it was excellent. Support finally agreed that the RTP300 had to be replaced. Problem solved. I still don't understand how a network element (the RTP300) could cause the DSL line to disconnect.... but it did. |
