PostPosted: Thu Jan 20, 2005 8:32 pm    Post subject: How to Activate Linksys PAP2 Adapter? Reply with quote Back to top

I just bought the Vonage 15/mo package lastnight online and saw the Pap2 for 59.99 with 59.99 mail in rebate at Best Buy so figured i'd get that instead of waiting for Vonage to send me the free one. Anway, I'm a computer programmer so am very familiar with networks etc. Setting up the hardware was no problem.

I am curious if I have to activate this new adapter since it's not the one that Vonage sent me. Do I need to send them the MAC or something? I follewed the instructions in Vonage's FAQ. I have it setup like Linksys Adapter -> Linksys Router -> Cable Modem.

Any help is appreciated.

You cannot activate the PAP2 without signing up for another account, as far as I know. Try calling Vonage directly, but be prepared for to be on hold for a while.
The customer service number is 1-866-243-4357

Good luck.

I figued there'd be some interface i could log into and set it up but then realized Vonage probably needed to update the MAC address on their side. Damn, I wish they had some tool on their site for this. Not sure I have the patience for their hold time. Thanks for the reply.

something to look into...I believe the rebate only applies to new customers. I realize you are new, but there is a different sign up process if you buy retail (vonage.com/activate, etc) so I'm not sure if you'll qualify as a new customer or not as far as the rebate is concerned. I'd like to know what you find out if you end up keeping the pap2.

Only 15 mins on hold not bad. Well they told me since my number was adapter was not provisioned yet they could not update my MAC. So they let me cancel my account and refunded my money. I'm going to just sign up for a new account at http://www.vonage.com/activate.

Thanks for the feedback!

The fun continues. I cannot get a dial tone. I have it setup behind a linksys wireless router. I gave the PAP2 a staic ip and i get a solild blue LED on the phone1, ethernet and power lights. I just get zilch on the dialtone. I tried that 80# thing and all the trouble shooting stuff in the book. I'm very skilled in networking so I don't think any of my settings are incorrect... but who knows. I even port forwarded all right ports to the adapter. I waited overnight figuring the MAC took some time to register in their system even though it said it would be ready immediately. After waiting overnight still nada. I dunno, hopefully after work I'll have time to wait on hold and see if there's something up on their end. Meanwhile, anyone have any insight on this?

I had almost the exact same issues as you a couple days ago when I purchased and set up the pap2.

I have linksys cable modem, linksys wrt54cs, then pap2 and multiple pcs

When I first hooked mine up I had no dial tone and the phone light would not light up. I called tech support waited about 30 min to finally get someone, and they managed to take care of the no phone light problem. Now I had dial tone, incoming calls worked fine, but outgoing would get fast busy signal. I waited awhile getting frustrated and managed to get connected to tech support. This guy was actually nice and helpful. He checked settings, checked his end, switched the settings so that the phone worked on port2 and boom problems solved. Once he switched everything back to port1 all was good. Phone works great now, no issues, no noise, happy camper.

Yea that's similar but not exactly like my problem. I actually have a green led on all 3 lights. Just no tone. I guess it's looking like I have to bite the bullet and call support. Oh boy...

Sorry I forgot to update this. It's funny you mention that, I figured that out when I got home from work that day. It's weird, the LED's for phone1/phone2 on the PAP2 do not line up with the actual ports on the back. They're transposed. So I just had to put the phone into line 1! It's working fantastic now. Thanks for all the assistance.
