Post subject: Vonage device prevents access to certain webites
My Wifi is piped through my
Vonage
router/device. I notice that the
Vonage
device prevents access to certain websites--particularly websites that try to access my IP. When I plug the ethernet cable into my computer instead of the
Vonage
device the problem goes away.
Has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know how to fix it?

The
Vonage
telephone adapter is a router. What you describe is exactly what should happen if you purchase any router from your local store. A router hides your internal PC's from the internet by using NAT (Network Address Translation). The router's WAN port has the Public IP which would be visible to the internet world while your computer connects to the router's LAN and has a private IP that is not visible to the outside world.
When you connect your computer directly to a modem, the computer now is wide open to the entire world because it has the public IP. Makes it very easy for anyone who knows what theiy are doing to access your PC, take control over it or put malicious things on it. Using a good software firewall can help but it not perfect.
What are the websites you cannot access?
