Outgoing Caller Name

My understanding is that Vonage doesn't update the "database" with the subscriber's name, so people receiving calls from a Vonage subscriber doesn't see a caller name.

The solution I've seen is to port your number to another phone provider, have them update with your name, and then port back to vonage.

Has anyone tried this? Did it work? Which provider did you use?

I know that in the past I've seen many posts from people that ported into Vonage from another carrier did still have their name on outgoing calls. I can't say if that is something that will be like that forever. Meaning that perhaps it worked that way for a while but eventually their names were dropped. I know I sure wouldn't go through all of that hassel of switching and porting just for that though.

Don't waste your time. Doing this is kind of like playing roulette. While the prior call company may still keep your information in their database it doesn't necessarily mean that the information will roll out to other carrier's database. The fact of the matter is that Vonage does not have an outgoing CNAM database at all currently. I've talked this over with SEVERAL vonage employees and it just isn't a major focus to them. I was told a few months back that with the new vonage management that this was supposed to be brought back to the table as something that might get more attention but I haven't heard anything since then.

As VonTechMgr told me a long time ago... you have to weigh what is more important... outgoing CNAM or the other services/features you get with Vonage. As much as it annoys the crap out of me that my phone does not display my name when I call people I just can't beat the price and service from Vonage.
