Hello,
I had a vonage no 2 yrs back. It was a cool no. But i discontinued. Now I want to sign up again. When I asked for the same no they said they cannot do it since it was deactivated. But the no is still not taken. Is there any idea on how I could use the same no?

Thanks,
Vivek

I assume you called the number and it went to some sort of carrier switch message and that is how you determined that the number is not taken. If the number still belongs to one of Vonage's partner carriers and Vonage still has it in inventory, you can request to get your current Vonage number swapped out for the one you want.

However, if someone got the number after you had it and then decided to port it away from Vonage, this menas Vonage's partner carrier released the number to another provider and this number is no longer under Vonage's control to give you you or anyone else.

If you call your old number from a cell phone or phone not with Vonage, what is the exact message you get and what is the trailer code at the end of the message?

Thanks for your reply. When I call up this number, it says "THE NUMBER YOU HAVE REACHED IS NOT IN SERVICE. THIS IS RECORDING. 362009"

Please let me know.

Thanks,
Vivek

That is not a Vonage trailer code which means calls are not terminating to Vonage when this number is called. You can also go to tnid.org, put your phone number in and it will tell you who the previous and current LEC is. Post the previous and current provider here.

This number was ported away from Vonage in April 2008 and is no longer under the control of Vonage so therefore would be unable to be assigned to a Vonage customer.

In this case can have have a different no of my choice? Also do you know anything on Call forwarding. I have an international plan with Vonage? Can i fwd the call to any international no within the list of countries in my plan? IS there any service charge to it?

Please let me know.

You cannot just create or choose any number you want but you can change your number and upon changing your phone number, you are given 5 numbers to choose from in the location of your choice. This is done right from your web account.

Call Forwarding is rated and billed the same as a number directly dialed from your phone number. If the International number your forwarding to is included in the rate plan, then it would not cost you anything to forward to it. If it is a mobile number, make sure that mobile numbers are included in the country your forwarding to.
