Post subject: vdv21& Vtech cordless phone has a busy tone
I have the
vonage
system model number vdv21-vd and i am trying to use a cordless phone with a digital answering machine built in (it was a gift) It is a Vtech IA5854 5.8GHz and every time I try to dial out I get a busy signal right away. I was using a corded phone but it became annoying if i had to be somewhere else in the house like for say tech. assistance on my water heater or a/c unit or cable tv. And also if i dont get the busy signal and i try to dial out it doesnt. The number I dial shows up on the phone but never registers on the
vonage
system box like it used to do while using a corded phone. I want to keep the cordless phone but the
vonage
system just aint letting me use it. What do i need to do to make this work????

Sounds like there is a certain digit or digits that do not get detected as dialed on the VDV21 from this make and model phone. When dialing, a dial plan match must be met before the
Vonage
telephone adapter will send the call to
Vonage
. So if only 6, 8,or 9 digits are collected, the VDV21 is waiting for other numbers to be dialed to meet a dial plan match and once the interdigit timer expires, you will get a fast busy.
If you have no issues on a different make and model phone, there is nothing
Vonage
can do for you as the unit is working properly. You may want to confirm the cordless phone is set to Tone dialing not Pulse. If the phone is new, you may want to exchange it for another make / model.
