I have been a Vonage customer on the $24.99 plan for 3-4 years now. I have recently got cell service at my home and I would like to reduce the Vonage plan. I think the 500 minuite plan would work, however I do call Europe sometimes. I see they just rasied the price to $17.99 on the 500 minute plan. Is there still a one year contract price for the $24.99 plan? Is there a one year contract price for the 500 minute plan? How can I save some money? |

As of this morning, Vonage has launched the Vonage World plan which is still $24.99 a month for Unlimited calls to the US, Canada, and Puerto Rico but adds free Unlimited calling to 60 Countries. Of the 60 countries, calls to cell phone lines are only included in 15 of the 60 Countries. The remaining 45 are for calls to Land Lines only. The chart can be found here.
http://www.vonage.com/residential_calling_plans/vonage_world/
Click on 60 Other Countries to see which destinations are included.
In addition to the new calling plan, you would also get free Visual Voicemail which is the transcription of the voicemail messages into text form which is sent to your e-mail address or via sms to a cell phone.
So depending upon where in Europe you are calling(if the country is included) and how many international minutes you use a month, this might be a good deal for you.
To get on this plan as an existing customer you just need to call customer service and asked to be switched over which will be transparent to you as there is no cost involved. |

If I go with the pre-paid 12 month unlimited world plan, the price drops to $19.99/month. I don't call international a whole lot, so its not a high priority. I now concerned about going over the 500 minute and getting changed far more than $19.99. Is the pre-paid plan a 1 year contract or can I cancel and get a pro-rated refund? What if Vonage goes out of business? Can I still get a refund? That's what I'm worried about and the reason why I have been month-2-month until now. |

You only get charged for out going calls and since you have a cell phone you can use that for out going calling and not go over your 500 minutes. |

Our home phone got switched over automatically. Vonage sent me an email saying they switched me over to this new plan and that I also get visual voicemail. |

It appeard that I had, but the $0.25 per transcription still appeared next to the button to activate the visual voicemail, so I called customer service and had them do it, as well as verified that it would be included in the plan.
I ran a test and I was not charged for the visual voicemail transcription, just showed one transcription at $0.00.
BTW, I have this on Google voice for my work line and really like it! |

milhans....I assume you were not on the standard Residential Unlimited plan. The ONLY plans that were switched automatically were the plans that were being phased out such as the Vonage Basic World which was Unlimited domestic and one of the regions such as Europe or Asia. Since the world plan includes all of these nations, these plans are no longer available and existing customers on them were instantly converted over.
The majority of the customer base resides on the standard Residential Unlimited rate plan and these customers would need to call customer service if they wish to switch over. |
