I recently moved to a neighbor's guest house while my home undergoes some renovations. At the new place I am not getting a Vonage dialtone. Here is the current setup:
Comcast Internet>Linksys Router>Hardwired to my Apple Airport Extreme>Hardwired to my Motorola VT1005
The Vonage box worked just fine through my Airport Extreme at my prior house. I suspect it may be an issue with Port Forwarding on the Linksys router. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how I troubleshoot? The Linksys is setup in DHCP mode as is my Airport Extreme so no devices have a Static IP. Additionally I'll comment that I've hooked the Vonage device directly the Linksys Router (bypassing the Airport Extreme) and still get no dial tone. Thanks for any guidance you can provide. |

Cjones, try connecting your Vonage device directly to the modem and see if it works. If it does, then the linksys router is probably interfering with your Vonage device. To fix that, try setting up the Vonage device on the DMZ, or forward the following ports to your Vonage device.
OUTGOING Ports
DNS: Port 53 UDP (Domain Name Server - for resolving server IP addresses)
TFTP: Ports 21, 69, 2400 UDP (for profile upgrades/downgrades)
HTTP: Port 80 UDP (for firmware upgrades/downgrades)
NTP: Port 123 UDP (Network Time Protocol - so the device can sync to the proper time for Caller ID)
SIP: Port 5061 UDP (used for older Vonage devices provisioned before 2005. Also, BSP Proxy Groups 1-8, and a.voncp.com communicate on port 5061.)
INCOMING and OUTGOING Ports
RTP (Voice) Traffic: Ports 10000-20000 UDP. When a call is made, a random port between 10000 and 20000 is used for RTP (Voice) traffic. |

Thanks Rogerover. After I typed my email I realized that I probably need to try a direct connection like that to isolate the problem. I'll give it a shot tonight and post back if successful or not. Is there a link or site I can refer to for configuring the Vonage device over DMZ? I haven't heard of that before and am curious to try if necessary. Thanks again. |
