Post subject: VirginMedia setup
before I ask my main question I have a preliminary question.
I would like to make a search of the forum but I cannot see how this is done. Am I missing something very obvious?
I only started looking into the use of
Vonage
about an hour ago so I am very green.
I believe that I should set up the equipment as follows:
VirginMedia cable wall socket -
Vonage
adapter box - VirginMedia cable modem/router - laptop/printers etc.
The
Vonage
adapter I have seen has two Ethernet connectors, one being the input socket for the cable from the wall socket and the other being the output to the modem.
Cable broadband systems have, I believe, a coaxial cable from the wall socket to the modem so this socket is not compatible with cable.
At the moment I am waiting for my VirginMedia broadband to be installed so I am not sure of the layout.
Have I got it wrong or is there a different
Vonage
adapter for cable?

As follows.. Virgin coax into their cable modem (they set that up on install) ....network cable from their cable modem to
Vonage
adaptor...then network cable from
Vonage
adaptor to your gear (PC or router etc) ...........

I assume you're going to be running more than just the
Vonage
phone, so you're going to need a router between the cable modem and your home network.
I've used a Belkin 802.11b in the past and now use a Netgear 802.11n both of which work fine. It's just a case of setting them up with your Virgin box and then plugging in the
Vonage
adapter using coax directly into the router
