Is it possible to connect a Vonage subscribed phone by piggybacking on someone's, possibly a neighbors wireless access point? if so how and what do I need to accomplish this. I just lost my broadband internet connection but can connect on the internat thru my desktop with a wireless adapter to one of my neighbors system. |

in addition to the wireless connection, plug the WAN side of the ATA into your computer with a normal ethernet cable.
Now you have two networks and you have to 'bridge' them together to form one network - so the ATA can be see the router on the wireless side.
How to do that depends on the OS of your computer, but here is a guide to windows XP: http://www.homenethelp.com/web/howto/windows-xp-bridge.asp -- PenBay Networks http://www.penbaynetworks.com/ Voip Recorder - Record Calls Made with Vonage(tm) on Your Computer |

I used a NetGear WGPS-606 Wireless Print Server when I stayed at my parents house a couple of years ago. Basically, it acted as a wireless bridge/extender to their router. It had 4 ethernet ports and 2 USB ports. I had a Desktop, Laptop, NAS, Vonage ATA and Multifunction Printer hooked up to it.
I didn't notice any difference in sound quality, though I did have more trouble using fax over Vonage over the wireless than when my ATA was connected directly to the router. The only other issue I had with it was the Multi-Function of the printer as most print servers do not support bi-directional printer support. But that doesn't effect Vonage.
You can probably use any wireless print server/extender as long as it has ethernet ports. |
