I find that the caller ID feature produces inconsistent data on the Caller ID box. For instance if the same caller calls three times in a row, the Caller ID display will be different for each time received. For example:
Bill Smith at 720-206-1495 calls several times. The Caller ID shows
Unknown Name -next- Bill Smith -next- Bill Smith 720-206-1495 17202061495 720-206-1495
The third one is the correct one. I contacted Technical Support. I was told that a change to my software was made and I had to shut down and restart the Router. No change was evident. Any ideas |

unless you don't like bill smith, I wouldn't go around posting someone's phone number. it's kind of weird that it varies...what caller id device or phone are you using? also, are you in any of these area codes and did the problem start within the last few days?
Customers in the following area codes: 615, 931, 662, 901, 727, 813, 863, 941, 330, 614, 717, 512 and 210 may experience problems with inbound caller-id due to a local carrier issue. |

Yeah. I have been a customer in the 813 AC for 2 days and the caller ID for everyone shows OUT OF AREA. Once this morning the caller ID did show my name from the landline phone. I called tech support and they notified me that there are issues in my area code. |

The problem you mention of getting different data for the same caller is one tech support and I have struggled with in 615 area code. I was around when we didn't have names. Then we got them and they were nearly perfect. Then it started the inconsistency and missing names around June of this year, and tech support and I worked and worked on it to get it right. They were back to about 80% proper when the local carrier problem hit two days ago. I can't say that tech and I ever figured out completely what caused the problem for me -- which didn't include the variations in numbers, but rather random callers coming in as unknown or wireless caller and three minutes later coming in properly. Just keep working with tech and hopefully they'll hit on the answer.
has anybody who lost caller id names in the last two days gotten it back yet? I may reset the router just for fun, but we're still down in 615.

Well the service notice that says there are CID problems in 813 is gone and i rebooted my RT31P2 and I received the name for caller ID the first call and now its back to OUT OF AREA and the # for the calls. I guess I am going to have to call tech support and get this worked out. |

Saw the service notice was gone this morning and rebooted my modem. Still had all "out of area," and I was in the process of writing an email to tech support when I checked and see the service announcement is back. Guess the fix is still in the works. My kids have all their friends' phone numbers memorized from when we didn't have names, so they don't even notice when it doesn't work. Me? I'm old and I like seeing the names so I can save my memory cells for other stuff.

Noticed the notice was back after 15 mins on hold with tech support. Terminated that call and will wait and see what happens. I do notice that it is working about 3 out of 10 times now. Alot better then when I first signed up on 1/17 |

Oh, hey, 813 is doing better than 615. I've not seen a name at all yet. Maybe it's migrating south to north. Not fair, though. You have the warm weather; you should have to wait for the names. (sarasota native, formerly 813)

I don't live in any of the "Service Announcement" areas. I can only wait and see if the promised fix will do me any good. Yet, oddly enough, where Vonage tells me that those who receive my Caller ID will receive only "Unknown Name" on their Caller ID boxes are receiving my name, regardless, as well as my phone number. Go figure |

sounds like you ported your number over. if so, don't worry, it will stop soon (once the "caller id name databases" are updated) |
