Hi all.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but this seemed like the proper place to start this topic.
I've been a Vonage customer for about three years, during which time I have used the Motorola VT2442-VD that Vonage sent me when I signed up. I've had no problems until now.
The short version: My Motorola VT2442-VD is no longer connecting to the internet/Vonage. The power light blinks continually, the internet light blinks every 5-10 sec, the phone line light doesn't come on at all.
The longer version:
I have always hooked the Motorola though a Linksys WRT54G V1.1 with DD-WRT firmware. Sometime in the last couple days, the Motorola stopped connecting to the internet (i.e. Vonage) so my phone stopped working. My computers/WRT54G are all able to connect to the internet.
I have already tried plugging the V2442 directly into my cable modem and the firmware/HTML tells me that the WAN is connected but it won't actually let me out onto the internet.
When I plug the VT2442 into the WRT54G (as it has always been) the VT2442 firmware does not register that the WAN is connected. Not only that, but the WRT54G doesn't appear to recognize that the VT2442 has been plugged in (front port light doesn't light and the VT2442 doesn't show up in the DHCP list).
I tried giving the VT2442 a static IP address as well and that didn't fix matter either.
Is my VT2442 hosed? Will I have to buy another Voip router?
PS: Sorry for writing a novel but I wanted to put down everything I have already tried so people don't waste time suggesting I do them again. |

You may have to buy a new ATA, but I would call tech support and point out they are giving free equipment now (according to their ads) and you have been a customer for 3 years. |

Indeed, I did email tech support directly after I posted this topic.
After a few back-and-forth emails to troubleshoot and verify various things(including a couple screenshots of various bits of the router config screen), tech support concluded that I would need a new device.
They have indeed offered me my choice of devices: VT2442-RB or a V-portal, both refurbished.
I chose the VT2442-RB since it is more like an actual router including more than one LAN port. |

Nice to hear. In the past, many had to argue about how long they were the customers and threaten to drop the service in order to get what should have been an automatic. |
