My calls have been dropping consistently for the last few months. It happened after I upgrade to roadrunner turbo and changed out my modem.

1. Austin
2. Roadrunner turbo
3. 6-22 Mbps down 1.96 Mbps up
4. ambit u10c019
5. linksys rt31p2
6. phone>linksys rt31p2>dlink di-63m>ambit u10c019
7. My calls are dropping after about 10-30 seconds

I have had Vonage for over 5 years and never had any problems until a few months ago. The only change was the modem. What can I do to check if the modem is causing the problem so I know what to fix. I logged into the ambit and there are no errors reported in the event log.

What modem did you have prior? You do know that the Ambit u10c019 is also a router which means your Vonage device is not double NAT'd (sitting behind 2 routers). Here are the specifics and I will point out what is most likely happening.

What most people call dropped calls with Voip is not a dropped call at all. It is an audio condition where the RTP stream only makes it to one end point or possibly neither. This causes one or both of the parties to hang up when they cannot hear either each.

What is most likely occurring here is either the SPI firewall or more possibly the IP Flood Detection is blocking the RTP stream at a certain point in your call. If you can can get a standalone modem(Motorola 51xx series or equivalent) from your ISP as a replacement, I would start there.

We have also been experiencing dropped calls about 20 secs into the conversation. Apparently this is common from looking at older posts. It is frustrating. After we lose the call, it is a very long time before we regain a dial tone. I need some "instructions for dummies" on how to fix this. What I've read so far has not helped me know what to do.

Did you read the sticky at the top of the forum?
It tells you what to post when having technical difficulties. It will help point where your problems lies.
Call quality is directly affected by your internet connection. If your internet connection is unstable, your Vonage experience will suffer.

What to post when having technical difficulties

The Voip speed test listed here does not work anymore. Google Voip speed test and post those results along with the other information requested.

Then I ran it again and got different results:

Download speed 9027 Kbps (socket test)
Upload speed 2702 Kbps (socket test)
Quality of service 83 %
Maximum delay 96 ms
Round trip time 52 ms
Upstream jitter 1.8 ms
Upstream packet loss 0 %
Upstream packet order 100 %
Upstream discards 0 %

Seems like too much trouble. We are considering bundling with Comcast anyway.
