I've installed the Linksys RT31P2 Router with 2 phone jacks. The router works fine, but my Firewall would appear inoperative. Since I hooked up the Router, there hasn't been a single incomming event logged. Testing the Firewall produces a message that I my PC is doubly protected.
So: 1. Do I disconnect a Firewall that may be redundant 2. Is it possible to set the Router to allow Internet through 3. Do I want to |

1. I would, but it's your call. 2. yes. if you want everything to come through then set up DMZ. look in your manual for this. it's available online also at: ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/rt31p2_ug.pdf 3. I don't know why you would want to.
to try to explain a little better, the router protects your computer from being exposed to the internet. instead of all the bad traffic hitting your pc, it hits the router which inspects and rejects (or allows) the packets through. (hardware firewall) obviously it's doing a fine job for you, so I would just let it continue. |

I had some problems running the Windows firewall with the Linksys. For example, I was no longer able to VPN out. So I just disabled the Windows firewall. It doesn't do a lot of good when you're behind a router anyway.
