I have had this connection for almost 5 years.. its done this before, and I've always been able to get it back-- not now.. I did talk to vonage-- and they want to send a new router--which i don't think will solve it...I have done the reset and re-synchs several times..
router: RT31P2
op: VISTA
connection: COMPUTER -->ROUTER ETHERNET
CABLE MODEM ---> ROUTER INTERNET
internet provider: COMCAST
computer dynamically gets ip addy.
the computer/net connection is fine if the router is not involved.. once the router is there, i get limited connectivity.. unable to get to http://192.168.15.1.
Its like some setting has suddenly changed, and I can't figure out what...Any ideas to what exactly I should be looking for, or what I need to make sure is set etc...
Thanks,
Alicia |

You didn't mention if when the RT31P2 is connected to your modem if the phone works. From the sounds of it, I think you are trying to say that the ONLY issue is between the LAN ports of the RT31P2 and your PC and phone does work.
If the phone doesn't work and your not able to access the RT31P2, then both the WAN and LAN are not functioning which means the router is shot.
If the phone works, connect the PC up to the LAN port of the RT31P2. Try different LAN ports. If no change, assign a static IP to your PC.
IP: 192.168.15.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default GW: 192.168.15.1
DNS:192.168.15.1 (only for now)
By doing this, you can see if the issue is with the DHCP server of the router or if it is the router itself. Try to access http://192.168.15.1 now.
If you can access the Web interface, then the issue is with the DHCP server in the router or a Vista windows update that has changed the Broadcast DHCP discovery it is doing and is not compatible any longer with the RT31P2's DHCP server. You can just leave this setup if it works.
If it doesn't work, have the RT31P2 replaced. |

When I have it all set up, the phone does not work..
No light on the phone...so no phone...
this has happened before..but after resynching after a spell it usually resolves itself....my gut is that something changed in the computer thus setting off a chain reaction to the phone not working...
I will experiment with your settings and see what happens..
Thanks! |

The computer has nothing to do with the phone working. You do not even need a computer to use Vonage. So if you were to power both your modem and RT31P2 down for 5 minutes then power up the modem, wait for it to show as Online, then power up the RT31P2, if you still do not get phone service within 120 seconds, your device is not functioning. Your PC does not even have to be connected.
So you don't have to follow my original steps since the issue is deeper then just LAN connectivity between router and PC. |
