After moving, I'm trying to set-up my existing box with Verizon DSL instead of cable internet. While chatting with the Verizon rep, he categorically said Vonage won't work with Verizon. I tried searching here and it certainly does appear verizon and voange do work together.
Is this a new thing or did the rep get it wrong?
What are the mechanics of connecting the Vonage box to the verizon modem, just plugging it in like I did the cable modem?
Thanks. |

I know of quite a few Vonage subscribers who use Verizon DSL for their Internet connection.
A problem occurs when people subscribe to Verizon's slowest offered DSL service. (I think Verizon calls it DSL-Lite.) This provides only 128k bps uplink bandwidth. Vonage normally uses 90k in each direction. So one conversation will use 70% of your uplink bandwidth. If you get two lines, or even if you use one line but use the 3-way calling feature to call two people, you'll be unsatisfied with the result -- the far end won't be able to hear you consistently.
As long as you buy enough bandwidth, any Internet connection with low jitter, low packet-loss, and full availability should support Vonage. |
