Post subject: Vonage and ADT revisited
After reading about everything on the internet about
Vonage
and ADT I made significant progress today in getting my alarm to work with
Vonage
but I have a question as it is still not working properly.
First off I have a Ademco Vista 20p being monitored by ADT. The alarm was not installed by ADT so the programming is not proprietary. I have gotten to the point that my alarm panel is actually dialing out through
Vonage
and I can pick up the phone and here the central station "beeping" however it doesn't seem to be sending any information as it keeps calling back (8 times in 10 minutes).
To get to this point I have reversed the wires inside my panel which seemed to work for some people and I have went in through installer mode and changed my report format to "4+2 ademco L/S standard".
My question is, is this the correct 4+2 format that I should be using? In the programming guide there are two others, 4+2 Radionics standard and 4+2 Ademco Express.
Any help or further suggestions anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I refuse to pay 199.99 for cell guard and more money for monitoring.

How about a GSM terminal (or whatever they are called)? you could find some in ebay for under $60. Then get a prepaid SIM...

This is a common topic for alarm users switching to
Voip
. The trend is actually away from broadband monitoring, because bad guys cut phone lines - and Internet lines. Plus, the Internet connection does go down. Cellular is definitely safer. We have found that Alarm.com is a great solution: it's cellular, so it completely bypasses the
Voip
connection - and it's actually recommended by
Vonage
. Alarm.com sells through a network of authorized dealers, and their preferred partners for easy installation is FrontPoint Security, covering the entire US and even Canada. Here is a link to their site:

You may want to consider an upgrade, and if so, go for comprehensive, flexible, and affordable peace of mind. It really depends on what you want your system to do - and today, what a good system can do will surprise you. For starters, the only safe systems use cellular monitoring (no phone line required, no phone line to cut!). Anything else is old news, since even an internet connection is easy to cut. Plus, the company should not charge extra for the cell radio, or add on big monthly fees for cell monitoring. The next thing is interactive services - you will be amazed what you can get today. So here is what you might look for:
1) 100% cellular monitoring - no phone line required, and none to cut!
2) Remote arm/disarm capability
3) Special apps for iPhone, Blackberry, Android
4) Email & text notifications on anything happening at home: doors opening, etc.
5) Video services - live viewing from any web connection (including phone) and motion-activated clips
6) Smart home - remote light and thermostat control
In other words, the game has changed, and the "old school" companies are way behind. And you can get a great system that you can install yourself, fully programmed and ready out of the box - that means more savings, and you can add devices at any time, and even move the system with you. When researching, I strongly recommend that you look at all the reviews you can find, and Yelp! is a good place to start. Shop hard, and don't just focus on the big names: look for safer, smarter, simpler, and more affordable - you will be happy you did!
Note: I work for FrontPoint, and am a 20+ year veteran of the alarm industry.

$40 a month???
Don't think so... cell monitoring is as low as $20 a month elsewhere if you use their device. If you have your own cellular terminal, then you would pay landline prices, which can be as low as $9 a month.
Main switch to
Voip
is to lower my monthly cost. What you propose increases this back to square one.
