After nearly 2 years of unbearable service interruptions, I've decided to call it quits with Vonage Canada.

Like many other poor souls, I too was suckered into getting the D-Link VWR. The performance on that piece of crap is horribly awful.

The tech. support rep @ Vonage Canada advised me he'd send me a replacement free of charge but I'd be obligated to stay with Vonage Canada for another year or I'd face the dreaded $49.99 disconnection fee.

With the D-Link VWR, I was in a 2 year period where I'd face the $49.99 disconnection fee, and I'm just a month shy of that 2 year mark but I cannot deal with the lack of phone service anymore. I'm going to have to cancel 1 month before the 2 year mark is up, which means I'll end up paying that $49.99.

As I'm typing this, I just hooked up my Primus TalkBroadBand VOIP service. I just have to wait for Primus to port my phone number from Vonage to Primus before I can cancel.

Anyways long story short, the service wasn't all that bad (when it worked), but it's just not reliable. I'm a former Primus customer, and they also allow you to pay via online banking (therefore no interest charges on your credit card).

It's been real Vonage.

Not sure why I am replying. Guess I just wonder why if you are resigned that you'll eat the disconnect fee and only would have to wait 1 more month, why not just keep the one more month since that would be cheaper.

Plus to state that paying online banking over credit card is better due to no interest charge, well .... to each his own.

Sorry that your experience hasn't been what you would have hoped. Best wishes for success with Primus.

...was a welcome to the typical silence that follows a : I'm leaving....post.

As for the disconnect fee, yeah it does suck (big time) but the main motivation for me incurring that fee was my wife was driving me NUTS! She's on the phone everyday gabbing away with her family, her friends. Sometimes I swear the phone has steam coming from it.

Anyways, whenever the service was down she'd bi*ch and moan about how this service was lousy. Not that she was bi*ching at me, but with all the complaining and voice raising (which cuts through me like a knife) she may as well have been. Rolling Eyes

So...the $49.99 early disconnect fee is a small price to pay to not have to hear "Hmmmmmrph VOIP!" and have her roll her eyes at me. As for the ability to pay via online banking?

That's another plus; no interest fees/charges. Lol

yes the wife test.

Having been with Vonage 5+ years, I recall the early times when we did have a few problems. Wife would call me at work just to tell me that the "phone" cut off. Of course after looking at the dashboard, I was stupid enough to say that it was a built in feature to terminate a call after 45 minutes. Since it has been flawless for some time, we were able to get rid of the landline. (Vonage was originally for our long distance.)

So soon enough we learn that the secret to a happy household is a happy wife.

Anyway, here's to hoping that you don't have to go back to landline, cuz I really hate thoser gougers.

I am on my 3rd year with Vonage Canada and had very few issues.

I hate DSL so won't go with Primus.

I have saved a lot of money getting rid of my DSL and using Vonage.

No problems with quality, nor features. In fact, comparing the features to someone like Rogers - it is a fraction of the cost for all these features.

Every service out there has people complaining about everything you can imagine.

My only complaint is that I cannot block specific numbers. Hopefully that will be soon. At least I can block all private numbers which has cut down my crank calls considerably.
