Hi all. I have FIOS, as you probably already know, and I cannot connect my ethernet cable for my FIOS internet directly to my Vonage box.
Currently, I have the vonage box connected to a LAN port on my DL-624 router that was provided to me by FIOS. The calls are very choppy and the phone is basically unusable. I have called VONAGE numerous times and they have updated the FW on my Vonage box and tried different coding of the calls to get me better quality, but it is not working. I think the internet cable needs to be directly plugged into the Vonage box to get good quality. When I plug the cable direcly into the Vonage box, I get error02 and no dial tone. Does anyone know why this is and what I can do to fix it?
Thanks,
BlakeS |

You need to set up the PPOE settings of the Vonage device so that it will log on to the dsl. |

Fios is basically fiber to the home. I did not think there are and settings specific to DSL necessary. Great Vonage master, could you please tell me how to set it up? |

Blake,
I'm not very familiar with FiOS setup since it isn't available here. However I'll try and help you do some troubleshooting. Does the D-Link router have any significance? e.g. - Can you take the cable that plugs into the d-link router and plug it into a computer and be live on the internet? If so, I would try and plug the vonage adapter directly to the FiOS cable. First unplug the power to your FIOS modem, vonage device and d-link modem. Then put the cable from the modem in into the Blue Vonage port. Then you'll plug the d-link router into the yellow port on your vonage box. After doing this just plug the power back on the FiOS modem first, then the vonage ATA and finally the d-link router. The Vonage box should acquire an address from FiOS and the d-link from the Vonage box and the computer from the d-link.
If all goes well you should resolve your quality issues because you will be allowing the Vonage ATA to handle the quality of service parameters for you. |

Basically the FIOS setup has the fiber coming to my garage to a FIOS box. From that box there is an ethernet out which is for my internet, a coax for my cable and a phone line. For my ethernet line, it normally connects to the WAN port of my router, then the other devices on the network connect ot the LAN ports on that router. An ethenet connection also goes from a lan port of the router to a Motorola modem that downloads information for the TV guide and video on demand and takes that to the TVs. Kind of a backwards setup for the modem, but that is it.
If I try to connect from the FIOS Ethernet cable directly to a PC, it does not work. It has to be plugged in to the WAN port of my router for me to get any internet connection. I checked the WAN settings on the router and it has DHCP enabled. When I try to plug the Ethernet port directly into the Vonage device it will not work either. I have no idea why this is. At first I thought I had a static IP from FIOS and that is why it failed, but I do not. I have called Verizon to verify this as well. Any other ideas on why this is not working? |

You cannot remove the router and reconnect your PC to the FIOS ONT without releasing the ip address on the router before disconnection and renew the ip address on the pc after connecting it.
I don't know the procedure to release the IP address on the dlink router so I can't tell you thst. To renew the address on the PC, use start button the select run. In the run dialog enter cmd. A dos window will open. Type ipconfig -renew to get a new ip address from FIOS. Before you disconnect the PC, do the same but type ipconfig -release. After reconnecting the dlink router, disconnect then reconnect the power, this will get the router s new ip address.
I have FIOS too, but have the Actiontec rev D router, with my vonage box (VDV-21) connected to a lan port on the router and it works flawlessly.
You didn't say what type of vonage box you have. Maybe it is malfunctioning. You might also want to post some of the pertinent information specified in the sticky post about what to report when you're having issues. Other readers of this forum can help you decipher that data if you provide it.
Good luck |

Login to your router and check the connection status. What is the connection type? Does it say anything about PPoE as the connection type? |
