Ok, I'm at a loss here, we have had a Motorola VT2542 for a few months now, but have run our wireless from a secondary router. It just died, so I'm moving our connections to the 2542. The setup was quite easy and the wireless works just fine, however, all our security settings reset to default (as in wireless active, passwords NONE) leaving us unsecured if the power goes out or if I unplug it and plug it back in.
Does anyone have an suggestions on how to fix this? I saved all my settings and did a "wireless" restart after each one to make sure that it was save.
Thanks! Jamie |

Jaime,
This is a known issue that affects the Motorola VT2542 (as well as the D-Link VWR). Although this has been around for a while, Vonage is working on a firmware patch to resolve this. |

Wow,
So in other words, go back to my old old DLink, or be prepared to reset my security settings every time the power goes out? (5-10 times a week here)
Ouch....thanks for the info! |

FYI, there is no firmware patch being developed to correct this issue. If there was a patch for this issue it would have been released by now. If Vonage support is telling you there working on a firmware update to correct the issue, shame on them. The loss of user configured settings on the VT2542 after a loss of power or a rebooting of the device has been an issue with this device since it was released over two years ago. You would be better served by getting yourself a wireless router and placing the VT2542 behind the wireless router and allow the VT2542 to act solely as a phone adapter. Since the VT2542 is defective, request a V-Portal free of cost. The V-Portal doesn't offer wireless though. I've been using the V-Portal behind my primary wireless router going on two years now and have had zero problems with the device. |

Highly recommended: a power backup source to feed your PC, phone adapter, phone, you may be able to make an emergency call even during a black-out. |

Sometime during the last two weeks the firmware in my VT2542 was updated to version 12.0.1-r100422-1.9.2
I did not receive any advance announcement.
All my settings were lost. My network was left open and unsecured while I was traveling.
I was unable to restore my backed up configuration and had to reconfigure manually.
UPnP option has been removed, and I NOT do see the VT2542 on my network as a UPnP device and the router FAILS UPnP testing. I tested using Mark Gillespie’s UPnP Tester available here http://www.markgillespie.co.uk/?page_id=18 If you have programs that require UPnP over the Internet they are mostly likely not going to work.
I power failed the router 5 times and did NOT lose my settings.
The menus now have a different look. |
