Why is Vonage blocking access to people in Mexico?

It seems to me, that some folks, immediately blame Vonage for the problem at hand before the problem is even examined for causality.

I'm in Mexico and have had Vonage for about a year but now it doesn't work. I'm connected with Prodigy Infinitum and all my internet stuff works fine with a fast DSL connection. I've rebooted, switched my cables around, plugged into all 4 ports on the router and no luck. The 3 computers hooked up to the router all connect fine. I pass the Vonage speed test. Prodigy Infinitum (Telmex) denies they are blocking service. Anybody having this problem and is there a way around this? Any info and help will be much appreciated.

Regards and Thanks!

How exactly is it not working?

If you lose dialtone try unplugging the Vonage box power for several seconds then plug it back in. That will reset it and it should reconnect with Vonage. You should have dialtone again.

If that doesn't fix your problem post some more info & we might be able to help.

No dialtone, no nothing. It was working perfect before. Didn't change anything and one day I just had no service. Linksys router BEFSR41 with the Motorola VT1005V. All my internet connections are working fine and fast.
I've done resets, reboots, unplugged everything for hours, swtiched cables around and nothing helped.

Thanks for your help,

check the configuration of your route, or make a DMZ to Vonage router

I´ve Vonage service with infinitum 256, router speedstream 5200, camera ip, and no problem.. and i check the service with the local internet cable system and working ok (megared)

Revisa tu configuracion de tu router o configura un DMZ a el equipo Vonage

Tengo servicio Vonage con infinitum 256, router speedstream 5200, camara con ip, sin problemas.. y he checado el servicio con el proveedor local de cable y trabaja bien

I use Vonage in mexico and have not been having problems.
I get an intermittent " forbidden access " reply when accessing the web site but can access the site by using the " secure" addess. The Vonage help line has been great diagnosing problems and adjusting port setting to eliminate access problems.

One other trick for accessing the website is to delete the "www." at the beginning so you access
http://vonage.com instead of
http://www.vonage.com

Sometimes that works.

I have been using Vonage successfully in Mexico for quite some time, but this past weekend, my service went down and I either can't make phone calls or if I am successful in placing the call, the party cannot hear me. I do not receive any calls either, although calls made to my number are being transferred to my voicemail. Several of my neighbors are also having this problem and in spite of repeated e-mails requesting help, nobody from Vonage has responded. Any suggestions to bring our service back would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, there is another thread about the problems in Mexico.

I'm in Mexico State (near Mexico City) with Vonage working fine over TelMex Infinitum DSL.

Also, Voip isn't illegal in Mexico as there is a new service called VOX IP (by IUSA, which is a big telecom company in MEX), which is the same thing as Vonage, but here in Mexico. voxip.com.mx( The plans suck, about 47 bucks a month for 1,000 minutes, 18.50 for 400 minutes)
