Hi,
When I first signed on with Vonage Canada, I opted for the D-Link VWR. At the time of signing on with Vonage Canada I did not know much about routers and the like. Now I've been with Vonage Canada for just a little under 2 years, and I must say that I'm quite disappointed with the router itself. It's constantly freezing up on me; requiring me to reboot it otherwise my internet just won't work, nor will my phone line. Then of course, with a reboot, I lose all of my security settings. I am sick and tired of this crappy router & am ready to move on to a new router. Enter, your help!
Here's how I'm using my wireless router, so please keep that in mind when recommending a wireless router to me :
- The router is situated in my basement, and must have excellent range capability in order to send signals to the main floor and the second floor (where we have other PC's).
- Should work with Windows & Ubuntu (Linux) with ease out of the box.
- Has a tight security setup (WEP, WPA, etc.)
- Will work with the Linksys WMP300N Wireless-N PCI Adapter
- Will work with my laptop's built-in 802.11b/g/n WLAN Card
So, which router do you think I should go with? |

If you go for a replacement, you may get the same DLink VWR or Linksys WRTP54G from Vonage. I suggest you to buy a Motorola VT2542 Vonage device at a retail store that works better. |

...that I can use any wireless router with my Vonage service. I don't like the hardware Vonage carries. I was hoping to get either a D-Link DIR-825 or a Linksys WRT610N.
I'm actually surfing as I post this, and I can see that my first 2 choices don't have phone ports (FUDGE!)
I'm ready to buy a wireless router of my choice, but the question is, will it be able to work with Vonage? Lil' help? |

Yes, you can buy a wireless router and still use the service. Not all the routers will have phone ports. Only Vonage supplied wireless routers will have phone ports. You can buy a Vonage phone adapter with out wireless capability and connect it to a wireless router. A pictorial representation of the network would be like this: Cable/DSL modem->The new wireless router->Vonage phone adapter->Phones. |

...can I keep my D-Link VWR wireless router as the adapter, disable the wireless capabilities and use another wireless router for my wireless needs? |

Make sure whatever wireless router you decide on has decent QOS features in it. Get the vportal Vonage device. |

....well, I actually ended up buying a Linksys by Cisco router : model #: WRT610N.
I posted a little how-to file so other users might be able to use it as a means of guidance.
