This is quite frustrating. There are a bunch of numbers I've noticed that I can't dial. I dial the following numbers and I get no response (just silence). I switch to my POTS line and they dial fine.

888-737-5834
866-628-8620

I am using Comcast cable for internet and it's through a VDV21-VD device.

Here is my information from a Voip test:

If after you dial the number, you get a period of silence followed by a fast busy, this is because all the dialed digits on your phone are not being detected on the Vonage device. This is because a dial plan must be met before the device will generate and Invite signal back to Vonage with your dialed string. If a dial plan is not matched, it will wait for more digits to be pressed therefore the dead air. When the interdigit timer expires, you hear a fast busy.

Chances are the device is not detecting the Digit # 8 since that is the only common number between your 2 examples. Please change out the phone your dialing from that connects to the Vonage adapter and retest. Also make sure you have a phone connected to one end of the RJ-11 phone cable and the other end directly into the back of the Vonage adapter for testing purposes. Want to rule out things such as home wiring or splitters that may be deteriorating the signaling between phone and FXS port on the Vonage adapter.

Hi, I called 888-737-5834 & 866-628-8620 from my Vonage line right now and they both went to "Ready Conference". Some of these Conference systems are not reliable with Voip. Did you get a recording when calling these numbers?

NOTE: Certain Toll Free Numbers can not be called from Vonage, such as the VA Hospital System because of SPRINT - they have a contract with the US Government that only allow callers within that area code to call them.

Q: I'm in the same area code as the VA Hospital - how come I can not call them?

A: Vonage routes ALL toll Free Traffic (Except Canada) from it's
Toll Free Gateway located in New York. Therefore in your in NJ trying to call Motor Vehicles Toll Free, it will not complete - You have to call using the 609 number. The Same for California, if your calling Southern California Edison (they have 25 Toll Free Lines) either call the Main Toll free, or call the local 10 digit number.

Speaking of Comcast and not being able to dial certain numbers I can't never reach the Comcast help at the phone # they tell me to call them back on. Ssomething like 1-800-594-1234. I always get a message stating " the number you dialed cannot be reached from your area" but if I dial from a POTS line I have no problems. Go figure..

I can always reach them via (888) C-O-M-C-A-S-T Lol

Some toll free numbers are area specific. That causes number on the Vonage system to be "out of the calling area" because they are coming from the Vonage server to the land line which is out of those toll free calling areas. You will have to call the regular phone number to contact Comcast.

VonTechMgr has addressed this in a previous post. It has to do with 800 numbers and the way the call is routed. check out http://www.vonage-forum.com/ftopic23577.html+number which is a previous post that I think is probably similar to what is going on here.

When I receive calls from Vonage subscribers on my 800 number, the Caller*ID is delivered correctly. Apparently the terminating carrier used by Vonage does not send its own number in that field. I am surprised that these issues are coming up.
