Hey everyone, A week ago I posted a problem and I thought I had it working but I dont. Before I got Vonage I ran my own shoutcast and web server, now with the Motorola vt1000v hooked up before my computer my Shoutcast and Abyss Web Server doesn't show up on the internet to other people.
I think I have to forward the ports for this to work. The only problem is I dont know what im doing in the advanced set ups for the box.
I don't have any router at all. The hook up goes: Cable Line > Motorola vt1000v > Computer
Now I know the IP address for this box goes as 192.168.102.XXX now where the XXX is it ask me to put in my own final numbers, what numbers do I put in there?
Im lost, basically to sum all of this madness up is I need to get my Abyss Web Server and Shoutcast Server to run again using Vonage.
I searched the Shoutcast forums and found no info and the same thing with Abyss. So if anyone can help please I need it.
The Shoutcast Server runs on port 9090 and the Abyss Web Server runs on port 80. I need to forward these ports through.
My domain points to the actual remote IP address and not the IP address of the box. |

Which Vonage unit are you using, is it the LINKSYS RT31P2? I also run a shoutcast server/streams. When I started using Vonage, they'd sent me a smaller phone adapter, and I had NO problems running both together. Vonage had to replace my original phone adapter with the Linksys RT31P2 unit, and I've had nothing but problems since. From what I gather from some research... the LINKSYS RT31P2 is grabbing much more bandwith than it's supposed to, thusly hogging all the outgoing bandwidth that we need to use SHOUTcast. Vonage claims that they need 90k in both directions for optimum performance. AFTER I subtract what my SHOUTCAST server needs from my UPSTREAM bandwidth, there's still close to 200k leftover for Vonage and the RT31P2, but for some reason this unit is trying to grab more than that. I'm still trying to get Vonage to answer my tech support emails. |

My phone adapter is a Motorola vt1000v.
I thought I had it working a few days ago but I could only see it because I had my domain name pointed to the machine not the actual remote IP. So only my localhost could find it not anyone outside of the LAN. |

I had the MOTOROLA device first, w/ no problems.... I actually had less bandwidth than you had and it worked fine. I only lost the MOTOROLA device after I had a power failure during a firmware upgrade for it. That's when they sent me the LINKSYS device, and it's been trouble ever since. I know have 4Mb down and 375k up, and thats PLENTY of space, yet it still either gives me garbled calls, or it starts interfering w/ my streams. I first thought it may be a "packet loss" issue, but after 72 hrs of line quality tests, I've found this is definitely a Vonage issue. And since Vonage took on this LINKSYS router, LINKSYS will not do any support on it, only VONAGE.... and we all know how fun it is to wait for Vonage tech support. |

My account runs through Earthlink Unlimited Voice which basically is powered by Vonage and I know this because during the sign up I read the terms and the entire terms agreement says "Vonage" all over it. lol.
I don't know if I should contact Earthlink or Motorola about this issue.
You didnt have to do any special task with the motorola device to get the Shoutcast stream running? Then what I dont understand is why doesn't mine work? I have great sound on the calls and no problem listening to Shoutcast streams but actually streaming my own server and using my Abyss Web Server no luck there.
Anything special you did with the Motorola unit to get it work? Or was it like that right out of the box? |

It worked fine, right from the box [the Motorola device.] Setup was this:
MOTOROLA CABLE MODEM SMC BARRICADE router two PCs and one Vonage Motorola device all hooked into the router.
Worked like a charm... I could even have others conected to my FTP server, while running two audio streams and on a phone call w/o problems.... now that I have the LINKSYS RT31P2 device, I can't seem to even get a phone call out without it screwing everything else up. |

Im wondering what I need to do to get my stream back up. I only run one stream at 32k and with the phone that shouldnt be a hold up on the download/upload speeds with my cable line. Hmm... This is giving me a headache. lol. |

Welcome to MY world.... I'm running a 128k stream and a 24k stream... after lots of tests and measuring, those two combined will use between 150-160k upstream.... out of my 375k up that I have, that should still leave PLENTY of space... I still get these problems when only running my 24k stream... That means this RT31P2 device is eating up over 250k when it's activated in a phone call.
The only thing I can come up with is that maybe the QoS settings on the device don't work. The default Voice QoS setting is at 256k when it's powered up out of the package. From the config page for it, the user has the option to set this lower. My guess is that even though this option is there, perhaps internally it's disconnected.
Since LINKSYS will not support this device now that Vonage has their hands all over it, all I can do is sit and wait for Vonage support, or switch Voip services.
I'm THIS close to canceling Vonage and moving elsewhere. |
