Ok, I used to have a WRT54GS Linksys router and i ended up buying a D-Link DIR-628 router because i needed a router that doesn't run off of 2.4GHz. So i unhooked every wire from my old Linksys router and put all the same wires in the same place on the new router. Then when i reboot my modem/routers it wont connect the phone up with the Vonage server. Yet when i plug everything back into my old Linksys router everything still works perfectly. Anyone know how i can get my new router and Vonage to work or is my router not compatible with Vonage?
Thanks!! |

For most other D-Link routers of recent vintage, you need to disable a feature called SIP Application Layer Gateway, its usually found in the firewall section.
What is the message you are seeing on the screen of the VDV21 when it is connected behind the D-Link router? |

Also make sure that you didn't set a static IP on the Vonage adapter. If you did, it would have been set for the default Linksys network which is 192.168.1.0 but D-Link's default is 192.168.0.0
So if you have the old IP statically assigned, it will not communicate with the new router as it is on a different subnet.
Connect a PC to the LAN port of the Vonage adapter, log into it, and make sure that the Internet settings are set to DHCP. |

is there a place where i can find the default login settings for the Vonage router? I wasn't the one who set up my Vonage when i first got it so I've never logged into the Vonage router before. As for the D-Link router i turned off the SIP in the firewall settings and i still cant get connected.
Right now I'm getting a 004 error from the Vonage router and i also think Ive gotten a 003 earlier when i was hooking it up. |

004 means you have an IP but cannot reach the Vonage servers. Just because you have an IP does not mean you have the correct IP for your network. It is very possible whoever set it up for you did assign the Vonage adapter with a static IP that would work with the Linksys router.
So 3 things you can try here.
1) Using a paper clip or pencil point, Press and Hold the Reset button which is located the back of the VDV21 for 10 - 15 seconds while it is powered up. (This is the quickest and most painless method to correct your problem if the issue is related to having the wrong IP for your new network statically assigned)
2) Make sure the Vonage adapter is either set for DHCP or change it's 3rd octet to 0 (192.168.0.x vs 192.168.1.x)
3) Log into your D-Link router and change the LAN IP from 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.1.1. Save the change. You may have to either reboot your PC or do an ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew in order to get the new network IP address.
In order to log into your VDV21, you need to connect a PC to the Yellow LAN port on the back of the VDV21. The PC must be set for DHCP so that it gets a 192.168.15.2 address. Once it has this address, in your web browser go to htp://192.168.15.1
Log in with a username of router and password of router.
Here is the help section for the Web interface. http://www.vonage.com/support.php?keyword=VPortal_WebUI |

ok. i did all these steps 1 by 1 and nothing changed till the last step.
Reset the Vonage router from the back and i still got the 004 error.
logged into the Vonage router and it was set to DHCP. saved and rebooted the Vonage router and still the same 004 error.
logged into my D-Link router and changed under network settings 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1 saved and when i did this i got a 003 error on the Vonage router then 10 seconds later the Vonage router auto rebooted and it went back to the 004 error.
so i have no clue whats wrong. any other ideas? |

The error messages you're seeing basically say that the V-Portal can't access the internet, both to attempt to access Vonage's provisioning system and register your phone number.
Do you happen to have MAC filtering enabled on the D-Link router? On at least some D-Link routers, MAC filtering applies to both the wireless clients and wired clients (which is somewhat silly). |

Thanks for these comments. I now have my network up and running. I had given up on Vonage tech support and was about to go back to my old provider. |
