Vonage and Alice Italia Telecom

Hi, I just have a wireless laptop, my alice italia telecom modem and the vonage modem and phone. What I did was I have a phone line that splits into the telecom and phone via a small box. The ph line goes to the phone and the telecom line goes to the alice modem. I use no username or pass to get online, my computer is wireless and automatically connects. Now I have the vonage blue cord running between the vonage box and the modem and the telecom line running into my modem, and the vonage box works, showing the little ph symbol. But when I hook my phone into the port it says error #007 or 002 or 001. I now have the vonage blue cord hooked up and the modem and box plugged in and the internet works, but my phone screws it up. What am I doing wrong???

Something that you wrote below sounds funny to me so lets just start at the beginning and walk through it from what it sounds like your set up is there is no need for a splitter, so that is most likely your issue.

First unplug the power from your alice italia modem and the vonage device before you start doing any of this stuff.

You aparently have DSL or ADSL service from Alice Italia. You should have a phone cord then coming from your wall and going in to the WAN or INTERNET port of the alice italia modem. Then on that modem you should have a LAN port. This is the spot on the modem where if you did not only have a laptop and you wanted to connect a normal desktop computer you would connect it. Depending on the model of the alice italia modem it is possible that you could have up to 4 of these lan ports. It does not matter which one you use.

Take the blue ethernet cable that was sent to you with the vonage device and plug it in to one of the LAN ports of the alice italia modem and then plug it in to the BLUE port on the back of the Vonage device.

Then plug in the power to the alice italia modem and wait for all lights to be normal. Attempt to get on the internet and make sure that you are able to. Then plug in the power to the vonage device and wait about 3 minutes. You should see a phone symbol after the vonage device is able to connect to the vonage service.

error #007 generally means that you are plugging your phone line in to the wrong phone port

error #002 means that the device is not able to get an IP address from the alice italia modem. This could be caused by the blue cable not being connected properly or the modem not be powered up completely before you power on the vonage device.

error #001 is a WAN error, simply put that means that the modem is not talking to the vonage device completely or the more accurately i guess you could say that the vonage device does not know that the alice italia modem is there or does not think that it is working prpoerly. This too can be caused by not powering the devices up in teh right order (italia modem then the vonage device) or something trivial like a loose wire or something.
