i remember distantly that those 2 didn't mix, but then comcast agreed to play nice. and my voice/fax were doing ok. but seems like within last couple of wks, the combo has been acting up again. my analog stuff is now much more flakey-used to be able to use credit card machine reliably, now can't get it to work on two different sites i have vonage + comcast setup. voice is choppy as well. has anyone else had similar problems?
my friend uses straight voip from comcast, and seems much more reliable. |

hm.. using v-portals-the way it seems to be fixed is rolling back firmware. not sure if newer v-port firmwares are interacting badly w/ comcast.. |

A suggestion for the credit card terminal issues: ask your merchant account provider about an Internet connection rather than a modem connection for your credit card terminal. Most modern terminals can work with either a modem or an IP connection. With the latter, you just plug it into any available port on your router. Credit card transactions go through faster, you no longer need to worry about keeping a phone line open when accepting a card, and you don't have modem compatibility issues when using VoIP. |

I too have noticed some real issues in the last week with my Comcast connection. My QoS settings are the same giving sip and rtp the highest priority of the connection, we don't use torrents, we don't have any streaming audio, really it is mainly phone and then VPN back to work on occasion and web browsing. However our phone quality has been different lately. I wouldn't say it is bad per say but we have had a few calls that went to voicemail and the phone never rang, on a call and you'll hear what I like to call a fast cut out. You hear a slight cut out but nothing to the point where you can't understand the other party or vice versa. We're also back to dialing and waiting a few seconds before it starts ringing.
I have no doubt in my mind that is due to Comcast dorking around with packet shaping. Which means Vonage can't really help us. We're at the mercy of our ISP. Unfortunately for me, it is either Comcast or switching to DSL which is about as expensive and you only get 6MB down. If Comcast continues to purposely degrade other protocols to make theirs come out on top, we'll have no choice but to go to DSL.
Sorry... I'll quit ranting about Comcast now. |
