You will not be able to use your V-Portal with the Cricket service without some fancy footwork because you would need to configure your computer to share your internet connection and then plug your V-Portal in to your PC/Laptop. Also keep in mind that Vonage would only work when you PC was on and connected to the internet.
Also be aware that I'm pretty sure that using Cricket for Voip isn't a permitted use. I have no idea how strongly they enforce this, but its listed in the "what can't I do with Cricket broadband" when I looked up a few things on their site just now.
Also keep in mind that this type of wireless connection may not give you very good call quality. I haven't heard of this being used before so I can't say for sure, but its quite a few hoops to go through to get it working. |

I am currently using a Verizon Wireless USB modem for our Vonage service. Verizon's terms of use says that using their wireless broadband for Voip is an accepted use. Other than some intermittent connection issues, the setup works fine. The setup we have is the USB modem connected to our desktop computer, the ethernet adapter plugged into the internet port on the V-phone adapter, and the V-phone adapter plugged into our wireless router (an ASUS WL500W).
We just recently bought a laptop. As soon as I booted up the new laptop, it detected the wireless network and connected; however, after many, many hours of mucking around with settings, the best I've been able to achieve is one of two things:
I can connect the laptop wirelessly to the internet, but the two machines cannot see each other, so we cannot share files or the printer connected to our desktop machine, or:
I can have the two machines see each other, but cannot connect to the internet from the laptop.
I would greatly appreciate suggestions on how to get both file and printer sharing, and the internet connection from the laptop working at the same time. I would be happy to provide any details on the setup. The desktop computer is running Windows XP Home sp3, and the laptop is running Windows XP Pro sp3. |
