In my Monthly ($14.99 plan) usage summary I see the following.

I know few of them, but I have no clue about others.

In-Plan Minutes used: (out of 500 minutes plan)
Regional Minutes Used: ????
Free In-Network Minutes used: (Vonage to Vonage calls)
Free In-Account Minutes used: ?????
Free Minutes used: ( calls to Voicemail and Tollfree calls )

In my city, there are two area codes. So if I call the other area code number , will that count as local call or long distance call?

TIA

did it count as long distance with your previous provider?
I would say yes it's long distance, but with Vonage, minutes are minutes, so it shouldn't matter where the call goes as long as it's within the US/Canada.

Yes.

But why Vonage counts the calls made to local area (same area code) as InPlan minutes?

I thought local calls are free just like calls made to Voicemail and Tollfree numbers. Surprised

What are FREE in Vonage?

Vonage to Vonage - FREE
Calls to Voicemail - FREE
Calls to Tollfree numbers - FREE
ANYTHING ELSE???[/quote]

I answered wrong before. That calls counts as local, as that number is within the LATA. (local calling area)

Vonage treats ALL calls within the U.S. and Canada as "local", in that there are no long distance tolls imposed. They are considered InPlan because all calls (except for international long distance which is billed separately) count against your 500 minutes. Your plan is not unlimited local plus 500 minutes long distance. It's 500 minutes total usage.

I hope that helps clear up any confusion.

I should clarify.... calls to other Vonage customers are considered In Network and do NOT count against your 500 minutes. To my knowledge, 800 numbers don't count either.

Thanks for the reply.

But what about the following.

Regional Minutes Used: ????
Free In-Account Minutes used: ?????

Free In-Network Minutes used: These are calls between Vonage to Vonage service.

Free Minutes used: Theser are calls made to Voicemail and Tollfree numbers.

In-Plan Minutes used: The minutes you used out of 500 minutes plan.

In-Account Minutes: These are calls which are charged against your 500 minutes.

Regional Minutes: I don't know why they break out Regional Minutes, or exactly how they define Regional. In normal phone service, Regional calls are those which are outside your local calling area, but are not considered long distance. In other words, "local toll" calls. For example, my own Verizon plan charges $0.25 per call for calls within our Extended Calling Service (ECS) area-- i.e., calls placed to a number within the same area code, but which is not local.

Whether or not Vonage tracks and reports calls that would normally be to your Regional/Extended Calling area, I don't know.

Atlast I figured out the In-Account Minutes.

It's the calls made to your virtual number, which inturn transfers the call to your phone number.

So the overall summary (if you are on 500 minutes plan)

In-Plan Minutes used: Out of 500 minutes
Regional Minutes Used: ???? STILL NO IDEA ???
Free In-Network Minutes used: Vonage to Vonage calls
Free In-Account Minutes used: Calls to your virtual number and it turn to yoiur phone number
Free Minutes used: Tollfree calls and calls made to retrieve Voicemail and

I think they used to offer a plan with unlimited local calling but not long-distance. That's probably where the regional minutes came from. Probably not relavant anymore.
