I’ve read many posts about choppy audio. I am a new Vonage user (less than 2 months) and have experienced choppy audio from day 1. Initially I had my bandwidth saver setting on the best quality setting, but have since set it to the lowest setting. I have extended the distance of the V-Portal to any other device to at least 20 feet.

When I reset the portal, the choppy audio goes away for a short period of time, but it always comes back. I’ve read that some have “fixed” this problem by using an older rev of the Portal firmware, but I can’t seem to find those posts.

I have tried connecting my phone (both wireless and wired) to the portal and using my home phone wiring and there is no perceived difference.

OK I just reconfigured the V-Portal and my D-Link DI-624 router. I had to use MAC spoofing to change the ethernet addresses used by both of these devices. I also had to specifically set the DNS server addresses used by the D-Link router. The phone seems to be working just fine now and I can connect to the internet as well. I will monitor things to see if the choppy audio returns.

I couldn't figure out how to set the DNS server addresses in the V-Portal while using DHCP. Is there a way to do this? I see how to do this if I were using a static IP address on the V-Portal, but FiOS requires me to use DHCP.

Here are the results of the Voip test in this new configuration using a wireless connection to the router:

Great! Let us know if you experience audio issues now.

No, you cannot use a static DNS with DHCP on the v-portal. You only get the option when you select 'Static IP' as your WAN connection type.

It has been a few hours now and the audio is good, not choppy at all. This seems to have resolved the problem, for good I hope.

Before going to Vonage I used Verizon VoiceWing for a couple of years without any issues. I used a Linksys PAP2 behind my router and did not need to make any changes. The V-Portal seems to be a bit more sensitive and less tolerant.

Thanks for your help.
