Quite often while talking on the phone, half of the conversation goes dead for about 10 seconds. Sometimes I can continue to hear the other people but they can not hear me. Other times, they can hear me but I can't hear them. This happens randomly. Sometimes it won't happen for an entire conversation. Yet other times it might happen every few minutes. So it is very intermittent as to when it happens. But the length of the dead time is always exactly the same (about 10 seconds). People I talk to know to just wait a few moments and then it will be fine again. Conversation quality is perfect except for this problem. When this happens, it is not a degrading of sound quality or anything. It is like a switch throwing. Then it comes back perfect again. And it is always only in one direction or the other (never completely lost). Any hints on what it could be (modem, router, ISP (cable), or Vonage themselves). I have no idea where to start tracking it down. For a couple years it worked perfectly until this started happening a couple months ago.

Post the information that is asked for in the sticky at the top of the forum "What to post if having technical difficulties."
This will help point the problem area.
When I had those type problems, it was my ISP. Intermittent line problems. Took several calls and several techs before the problem was located and repaired. Since then, my calls have been fine.

I was hoping it wasn't the cable company since they would be the hardest to get to do anything! Here is the info...

1. Duvall Washington
2. Broadstrip cable
3. About 5Mb/s download and 1Mb/s up.
4. Motorola Surfboard modem
5. Linksys PAP2
6. Surboard modem -> D-LInk Router -> PAP2 -> Voip phone signal fed into home wiring -> two cordless phones.

Have you found the cause? We're having the same exact issue. Although I don't know if it's 10 second I don't wait that long. It only happens every couple of days. I need to check the modem logs and the test (the test came back good about week ago).

If you are experiencing any audio issues with Vonage you should change the network setup to modem-vonage-router, and make sure to use the phone connected directly to the Vonage. Are the speeds and statistics you posted when you were having the issue or no? It could be that your Quality of Service is fluxuating with the internet company.

Is it happening at a certain time of day? With cable the more people online at the same time in a given area, the less speed you get. Is anyone in the home using a game at the same time, like XBox live or online gaming with a PS3 or computer? This can put a strain on your connection as well.
