This post is intended to assist owners of ReplyTV systems ...
My ReplayTV device successfully dials-out to the ReplayTV channel guide service every night (for the last month) through Vonage.
Background: Prior to moving to Vonage, review of this forum had me thinking I'd probably need to retain a bare-bones Verizon PSTN line to support my ReplayTV. (The fourm posts specifically addressed TiVO and DirectTV problems over Vonage)
However -- at least with my specific configuration (Northern Virginia w/ a Panasonic Showstopper) -- Vonage supports ReplayTV just fine. |

Is this because ReplayTV can communicate via broadband OR telephone line? If so, Replay sounds superior to Tivo. Any insights? |

Well ... My ReplayTV is an older Panasonic model which dials out every night using an analog modem to a local POP [which for me, is via Vonage].
The newer ReplayTV models are networked via ethernet so they connect to the channel guide service (and each other) via your LAN and/or broadband connection.
Most consider Replay technologically superior. (Although this risks generating another Mac vs PC "debate" between partisans in the respective camps) but remember, Beta was superior to VHS too.
Tivo ... as far as I know is stable financially, but like Beta ... ReplayTV (under Sonic Blue) went into bankruptcy and was recently acquired by another company. The eventual outcome of the service supporting the channel guide (the real key to the system) is uncertain.
Much more info is readily available on both systems by doing a simple Google search. |

Well without getting into the Tivo vs. ReplayTV debate, as a replay owner and having been a tivo user, IMO replay is superior.
However, the business aspect of replay as mentioned previously leaves a lot to be desired for. With the requent acquisition by DNNA (Digital Networks North America, a D&M Holdings company), I can only suspect the direction of the unit will eventually surpass tivo and make it a known household name. Especially to those familiar with D&M products.
But definitely do a search for it on google, or visit the large community at avsforum. |

I see that most of you that have the Showstopper system have no problem staying connected to the Vonage system for updates. I connect but it drops out near the completion of update. Do any of you know how I can resolve this?
Desperately seeking assistance!! |

As I understand it, one can only hook up an analog phone to the Vonage switch. I plan to hook up a wireless phone that can have add-on extensions. But if I want to hook up ReplayTV and my DISH network lines, they will have to be plugged into the switch as well?
Is there the equivalent of coax TV signal splitter or a hub or switch? How does this work? |

I also have the Panasonic ReplayTV but I am unable to get it to connect when it dials in. It just continues to dial. Can someone who has gotten this to work tell me how they configured theirs to work with vonage?
Thanks |

My replayTv does not work with Vonage, it sometimes connects but then hangs up within a minute or two for no reason. I am guiessing ReplayTv's are not all made the same, I also tried the putting a filter on the line with no help.
email me at raiderxz@sickz.com if you have any help or tips for me. |

I was wondering about which Vonage unit you have that is working with Vonage? I too have a showstopper and am having droped line problems with the Cisco unit that Vonage gave me. Which brand unit do you have?
Thanks in advance for your help.
