I had a Comcast modem (used for Internet and Voip) that came with a battery, and backup life was stated to be ~8 hours.
What can I buy for my Vonage adapter and Verizon modem that will also last around the same timeframe? When I searched for UPS' they seemed to have an up time of less than an hour. What am I missing? |

UPS backup time is rated in watt-hours. A 200 watt-hour UPS should keep a 200-watt load running for 1 hour. It should also keep a 100-watt load running for two hours.
Your Vonage adapter probably takes about 20 watts. Your modem probably takes about the same. To support both (40 watts total) for 8 hours, you want a UPS rated 40 watts x 8 hours = 320 watt-hours. Note that the rating gradually degrades as the battery ages, so you might want to start with a 400 or 500 WH unit, to provide some headroom. |
