Issue you are experiencing ie dropped calls, choppy audio etc
I'm not a big phone user, so I have a limited cross section of observations. I'm experiencing dropped calls, but there is some inconsistency in what occurs on these dropped calls.
In the recent past, I'd be on a call – maybe for 10 minutes – and I'd realize that I could hear the other party but they couldn't hear me. I'd have to 'hang up' and call them back.
Today, I was on a call for about 2 minutes and suddenly I couldn't hear the other party and they couldn't hear me. I 'hung up', called them back and the same thing happened again after 1 minute. I then asked the other party to call me, they did, we talked for 7 minutes and the call did not get dropped.
After the above call, I called another party and spoke for 11 minutes – no dropped call.
Strange – the calls that get dropped seem to be ones that I place to parties in the 818 area. I'm in the 310 area.
If I call numbers in the 818 area use Skype Out – the calls do not get dropped.
I've been on the phone with Vonage Tech support. They've done some extensive checking of my service / quality of my internet connection. They said my service/connection is excellent. The only thing they could think of to try was to decrease my packet size – and that seems to have neither hurt anything nor helped it.
I've been with Vonage since January 2006. This problem is new – over the last 3 or 4 months.

Upload and download speeds
You can see the speed test, below, that I did from this site. On the other-hand, if I go to SpeakEasy, I get and test from a California server, I get downloads typically around 17 Mbps
Modem make and model
I use the Verizon fios ONT – I suppose there is a modem integrated into this complex assy, I don't know what it is. I do not use the typical Verizon supplied router (made by ActionTec). Since I don't use Verizon fios TV, I don't need the ActionTec router. I use a Vonage/Linksys Router (WRTP54G) directly connected to the Verizon ONT. I made this set up with the help of Verizon tech support and Vonage tech support – both parties have thoroughly checked it out and say it's working correctly.
Type of Vonage adapter used ie RT31P2 or PAP2
Linksys Router (WRTP54G)
Setup of Network ie Modem---->Vonage Adapter-->PC
Verizon ONT > Linksys Router (WRTP54G) > Uniden DECT 6.0 phone
There is also a Mac connected via ethernet to the Linksys router
